VIN plate
SERE, no its not illegal, he did not say buy this and go rivet it to a lost or salvage titled truck.
If you collect 67-72 trucks and parts its just another part and document for your collection. But after you buy the vin plate, clean matching title & the build sheet, you can rivet it to a lost or salvage titled truck and no one will ever no |

its only illegal if you get caught plus what people dont know wont hurt em as long as it isnt a stolen truck theres nothing wrong with using a diff vin and title at least my eyes

i can understand why someone would need to buy it. i bought a 72 from my sisters boyfriend, and during the repaint he somhow lost the vin plate. i know the truck was not stolen, but the plate would be nice to put back on the truck. what is even worse, the body is 2x4 and its on a 4x4 frame. title matches the glovebox door but not the frame. i guess as long as the truck doesnt need to be titled in a different state nobody looks at the #s on the frame huh?

I've never had anyone look at the frame for anything at all...and that's been titling 3 trucks from out of state.

Some states look at vin numbers on the frame for salvage purposes

well theres no reason to salage a truck ur titling the new title fixes that prob for ya. say ya went to the junkyard bought a truck that was in good shape but had a blown up motor it would have a salvage title. you buy a title and vin just like the one above and switch em out. nobody ever knows and you win. takes lots of hassle out of it

Vin Plate & Title
Cableguy0 is so right,
As much as we on the board buy, sell & trade parts. As well as build up and tear down these trucks, I think that it's a great loss to this hobby when a clean vin plate goes to the scrap yard and the title, build sheet & original bill of sale goes in the trash. None of us would ever send one of these trucks to the scrap yard with a good set of buckets & console in it, or a working tach dash or GM 8 track. So we should also keep a clean vin plate with title & documentation. Last edited by burb71; 11-07-2004 at 08:33 PM. Reason: TITLE |
