Changing from drum to disc in front

when u change over from drum to disc brakes can you just bolt on the disc brake spindles to the original a arms or do you have to change the a arms as well?

Thumbs up

If using 63-70drop or stock height disc brake conversion spindles you don't need to change anything, if using 71 up spindles unbolt the entire crossmember with a-arms and all steering parts attached up to and including the pitman arm and roll it out from under the donor vehicle then do same on your truck and roll the donor under and bolt it on. Otherwise you will need to swap out upper & lower ball joints in your current a-arms for 71 up style or swap a-arms as you said and rather than unbolting everything from donor individually its much easier to do the swap as a assembly. The lower a-arm on 71 up trucks also has the brake lines to hose mounting tang attached on the front of lower a-arm on 70 and earlier this is attached at the rear of the arm.

Yes, '71 ball joints will work in your old style a-arms.

71-72 style will work as well as 73-87 ball joints.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
