column doing weird things...

allright, its getting more and more common, but everyonce in a while, i will go to shift from Park to Reverse, and the shifter will lock in place between P and R and with the slop in the colum(tilt) it goes ahead and goes into R, if i put it back up in P and then back it goes fine, any clue what this is or am i just from time to time being stupid? i know there is nothing touching the shifting linkage, also what do i need to do to get ride of all the slop in the column? its really anoying. thanks for any help

More than likely it's hte slop in the column giving you the problems.

Tilt fix

Kinda time consuming sometimes, but it has to be done.

I fixed the slop in my column today (well...wednesday)

It went pretty well as I had the two tools to do it.
You have to have a lock plate compressor and a wheel puller (both can be had for cheap from Autozone or the like)
The only thing I had a little problem with was the turn signal harness. It did not have enough slack to be pulled up far enough through the column. I wound up dropping the column from the dash a few inches (two bolts) so I could get to the harness.
All in all, pretty easy.

well the truck has a more important item to be fixed, its burning oil out of the number 7 exhaust port, the engine only has 3,300 miles on it or so, so thats going to be, i hope its the rings because then i can get the block decked so i can get my right 9.2:1 compressoin ratio

None on digital form...sorry
I need to wash it before I take any 'cause it looks awful.

I like to leave it dirty because less people stop and bother me about selling it.
I put three signs on it that say "NOT FOR SALE" but they still stop.
I can see why....... the sign on the windshield is ONLY 3 feet by 3 feet.

It's a weird color, kinda a light mix of silver and green with a white top.
