Lift a 2wd
I saw a suspension lift kit for a 2wd on ebay. it had the rear blocks and then it looked like front blocks for the coils....this doesn't seem real safe to me. is this somethin that they made...it was an actual kit, not homemade. i'm looking to get about 2 inches of lift. should i go suspension or body? and who sells good kits for a 78 lwb? 1/2 ton. could i just put 3/4 ton springs on? and get some lift?

Here are new HD moog coil springs installed in the front. I still have to fix the rear very sagging springs. Tires are 235/75-15 on 15x7.5 rims

I put a set of trailmaster add-a-leafs on yesterday. Got just shy of 3 inches of lift and they firmed up the rear to about were I wanted it. I'd think the best way to raise the front would be a set of raised spindles, but I haven't ever seen any. Has anybody else?

i haven't seen any either, they are all for newer vehicle's anyone know of a year that will work? also have seen the torsion bar keys or whatever they're called that raise it 2-3 inches....but only see them for 88 and up...anyone?

Spindles were made by AIM at one point, but due to low demand they no longer produce them. Coil spacers are ok, but like lift coils may cause odd tire wear and alignment problems. They do make ball joint spacers to attempt to correct this problem. A 3/4" coil spacer will provide about 2" lift. For a cheap lift to run larger tires a body lift isnt a bad deal, though i hope your bed is in good shape and i hope you dont plan on hauling heavy loads, i have seen beds bend in the middle. Spindles would be the best lift and i have heard you can machine the control arms to fit 88-98 lift spindles.
btw...what size tires are you wanting to run? i run 32x11.50x15 with HD front coils and stock rear.. also if you are wanting larger tires, you can run 'glass fenders on the front and fit 35" tires with no lift. They make fiberglass bedsides for shortbeds, but havent found any for longbeds... yet.. Last edited by Prerunner1982; 11-13-2004 at 11:46 PM. |
