Ok, I found the problem. It was the posi cable leaning against the manifold. it melted right through obviously. So I took the posi off and took some electrical tape and patched it back up. I hooked the cable back up and made real sure that it wasn't leaning on anything. I also put the new battery in. I went back to the cab and turned the lights on and they worked but when I went to start it up I got this real weak click and that was it. So what the heck is the problem now?

Sounds like the new battery is either in need of a charge, or it got damaged when it was hooked up to the grounded + wire (not too likely though). It's also possible that the solenoid was damaged the first time around. Let it charge awhile then try it again first.

glock35ipsc, I thought that I might have damaged the battery at first but it is giving out a full charge. I even put a different battery in to see and got the same results. I put the new battery back in and then gave it a jump and had the same results. I think that I might be back to square one again and just screwed up the new starter. I'm thinking of just pulling it and bringing it back. I just don't want to deal with all that work again.
Oh, and when you say to charge it will that affect anything other than the battery.

did it damage the wire too??? if your wire is damaged then you might not be getting all of the amps that the starter needs. you might need to replace it

Trust me, the more you remove and replace the starter the easier it gets! Practice, Practice, Practice!

Ok, I replaced the damaged pos wire with a new one and still nothing. The lights will work for a minute and then they won't. Next thing to do is bring back the brand new battery (that I might have damaged) and exchange it for another. After that it's back to square one and remove the starter to see if the solenoid got fried. I'm losing my head here on this one.

Hey guys, I got it running again. It turns out that both the positive and negitive battery cables were fried. I replaced the posi earlier with no results so I said heck why not replace the negitive as well. After I did that it fired.

I am a happy man again.

when I buy a new vehicle, I always replace both cables right away. Well, actually I don't replace them, but I do clean the terminals.... well, that is, if it has trouble starting....
I also floss twice a day and get a check up every 6 months!!!

todays lesson: its usually the cables!
