Bucket seat foam

Where would be a good place to purchase new high back bucket seat foam for our trucks? I looked in all the "parts & resto" catalogs I have and have come up empty handed.

Also, the high back Blazer seats are identical to the pickup high back buckets correct (excluding the seat brackets of course)...all the way up to 91??

I need to find new foam for at least one of the buckets I purchased, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I think the seat foam changed in 1981. Do you need the back or the bottom foam or both? If you just need the bottom, I think it is listed by some of the 67-72 parts houses since I believe the bottom foam on your seat should be the same or very close to the older style low back buckets. I'll be in the market for a couple seat bottom foams too...

Maybe Chris knows...

Joe, I believe I need just the bottoms, but until I pull the old covers off I can't say for sure. One thing about the foam, once it starts to go you might as well replace it before you recover the seats.

Slonaker, I might try and contact that guy, but getting those seats for cheap (they have to be shipped too), might be impossible. But thanks none the less.

Chris, where are you at???

The seats chenged in 86. After that, they resemble the Sub seats, but without the armrest. If you are going to have them uphulstered anyway, just ask the guy doing the work. You may not need new foam.

Seats changed to the fold and slide version (as opposed to the tip and slide) in 1987 on the Blazers, so the seats are the same from 1973-1986. You will have to get the 67-72 gurus to confirm this but the 72 and possibly the 71 are the same.

I think the high back seats debuted in 77, on some models. (mine had the low backed ones). Didn't your 77 have the high backed ones in plaid, Jeff?

Yes, the Woody did have high back seats in it...plaid too.

The seats I just purchased for Yeller are '78 high back seats. At least one does need now seat foam...it is missing a few chunks. To me it is pointless to recover a seat(s) if the foam is deteriorating...it is a waste of time and will only cause the new seat cover to stretch out or tear. I have already wasted enough money on half assed stuff...had enough of that.

So the quest continues...

Here is one solution. Expensive, but it shows some availability.

That kit is from Chevy Duty and is listed for 71-72 buckets. I know the seat back foam won't fit your highbacks, but maybe you could call and see if the seat bottom foam is available separately.

The bench in my 73 was beyond tired. When I had it redone, they steamed the foam, and it came back to it's original shape. It lost the funky smell, too. I would check with the uphulsterer before you drive yourself crazy, IMO.

Will do, I will have to ask them about that procedure. The shape of the foam on my seats is still there, it is just missing a few pieces. Just trying to weigh my options.

Re: Bucket seat foam

Jeff, did you ever get replacement foam or did you go with a different set of seats? Have they been covered yet?

Re: Bucket seat foam

Joe, I have three sets of high back seats now, out of the six total seats, I have two that are perfect, only needing new covers.

I have not yet covered them, as the interior is the last thing on my list as I type this.
