Backsliding Glass or not?

I'd like to get some opinions on whether i should go with a backsliding glass on my truck or not. Just wanted some opinions. No A/C so that is the main reason I was going to install it.

With no AC it comes in handy but I like the look of smooth glass way better!.

i agree, but unless you have a power slider then its another access point for theives

I personally don't like how they look. My grandpa had one in a 72 and it rattled like a son of a gun. I helped him put a smooth back window in it and I think they look a lot better. My truck doesn't have A/C either, but with the wings open, windows down, and the lower vents open it stays pretty cool....when your sittin at redlights is a whole 'nother story!!!

I have one and I love it,it will move a lot of air when the wings and back window are open and the windows down.It does blow leaves and junk up from the bed though.But still it's nice,IMO.

I like mine...easy way to throw trash in the bed of your truck while driving

I guess you could say that its an easy access point for thieves, but these old trucks are so easy to break into anyway, I don't think it matters.

And yeah, I do like the ventilation I have with no a/c.

I have one and won't get rid of it for nothing. No glare at night, great air flow, and a convienent pass-through for the cans into the bed.......

I didnt read this thread and i'm sure someone has mentioned it by now but NO i would NOT get a rear sliding window. Any theif will be able to get in and out of your truck at will. IMO i would never put a sliding rear window on anything that i even remotely cared about keeping.

I like sliders, the way they look and the way they work. As far as getting into the truck easier I cannot see much difference in security since the vent windows are easily broken into.

I like the sliders. Kinda cool having the back window open. Hey, If you don't like em' don't put one in...very simple. If you want one they are less than a C-note. Since my truck is a fair weather Spring/summer driver...I'm going with the slider.

I agree that the solid window looks better but I would not get rid of my slider...just watch if theres a can in the back...can scare you when it comes through the window and hits the dash

I like my sliding rear glass and there is a huge difference in air-flow. I like the look of a smooth one-piece rear window on show trucks... but I don't have a show truck. I'd say get the sliding glass and make the security a different issue.

it doesnt matter matter how "secure" you think your truck is the only thing stopping someone is a piece of glass not a hard obstacle to get around. if someone wants to get in they will i dont care what you have to try and stop them. use the slider it has far superior airflow in the summer with no ac plus as mentioned cold beverage cans pass nicely into the bed

True enough that a skilled thief will enter any vehicle they want to but that doesnt mean you have to send them a written invitation to steal from you. Its like this .... there are 10 trucks on a block, one of them has a sliding glass window that can be opened by ANYONE (even a 13yr old punk) ..... which truck is going to be the thiefs first target?

If its a beater and youll never keep anything of value in it then a sliding window might be a nice thing to have but if you have anything you want to keep in your truck .... make a thief at least work for it ..... dont just give it away.

Personally my garage door opener is in my car in my driveway and there is PLENTY in my garage i dont want stolen so i make sure i have adequate security protecting it.

wing windows are an open invite for someone to break in sliding glass isnt going to matter. i dont bother locking my doors it saves a broken window and its cheaper in the long run plus i dont have to ride around cold untill i get new glass. smacking a piece of glass with anything metal isnt work. glass is far from indestructable its not a magical barrier it just gives thieves of a good view of ur stuff. these trucks take no skill to get into or even drive away. if somebody wants it they will get it i dont care if your truck is armor plated

My uncle gave me a sliding window when I got the truck from him, it will definitley be installed. Also if I ever have the cap on the bed, then I have a pass thru to it, not that the cap will be on much, because it's an ugly 70's looking cap, with side windows that crank out.

Some people act like sliding windows don't lock, geez. It wouldn't be that easy to get into. Mine is very secure, I don't know how you would be able to unlock it without breaking the glass. If someone wants to break into a truck, it won't matter about the back window, they would just pick the one that has the best stereo. Get an alarm if you're that paranoid.
That being said, living in FL with no AC, I love my sliding back window, though it gets noisy with dual Flowmaster 40s under the bed.

If by "lock" your refering to the plastic peice that keeps it from sliding open then yeah i guess you can call it that but ive helped out more than a friend or two who locked there keys in their truck and it only takes a thin object to pop that "lock" .... anything found on the ground will do it.

What year truck are you talking about? It's impossible to lock your keys in these trucks.
My window has a metal hasp on it attached to the window frame, I have no idea what plastic piece you are referring to. One side of the window frame has a slot and the other side slides into that, so you can't even slide a thin object in between.

how does one go about breaking in through a wing window, i had it done to my truck once

most of the time someone just breaks the wing window or knocks the wing out there aint much holding the whole assembly in and the hinge is on the outside. then reach in and pull the door handle

One extra note... my slider has the metal hasp style lock and you'd have to break mine to get in.
