Floorboard 54 55 1st series

Question, are the floorboards the same for a 4 speed as a 3 speed?
Is the inspection cover over the transmission the same from 48 to 55 or are there 2 different ones?

The one for the 4 speed has a hole in it for the shifter.I can take a pic of mine tomorrow if it'll help ya.It has a factory 4 speed in it.I think it's basically flat though.

My memory is not what it used to be

The 3/4 ton we have down here has a 4 speed cover and it is sligtly raised with the hole for the sifter. The 54 im working on (and other 47-55 trucks we have) have a flat floor board because of the 3 speed. I think all 3 speeds were flat and 4 speeds were raised a bit with a hole, I know this is the way the later 55-59's are.

The floor in my 58 was flat and when I put the 4 speed in I had to change the floorboard panel. The one in it now is raised a bit with the hole for the shifter, hole for the hand brakes (my truck has 3 brakes. regular brakes, cable/hand brake, and brake on the trans), and hole for the kick start. Id imagine the 54 and 55 first series was basically the same way.

From the sounds of things there are 2 inspection covers Thanks I guess I will start looking for a 4 speed cover as mine is flat with the rest of the floor.
I am changing the B/W 4 speed to a Tremec 5 speed and from just looking at it out of the truck it is about 2" taller from the centerline!!

Thanks for the replys.

Here are too pic (bad pics) of the floor of the 3/4 ton. Its hard to see because of the thick rubber mat and other junk in the floor. If you need a better pic I can get one later after I move some stuff out of the floorboard and pick the mat up out of the floor. It was raining and I was already soaked or I would have done it just now lol. Also is a pic of my 58. The one for the 54 and 55 first series will be about as high as the one in my 58 except it doesnt cover such a large area. On the 54/55 I think the raised part is only around the shifter. Whenever I get a change to pick the mat out of the other truck I can tell you for sure.

Apache,
Thanks for taking the time to send me the pics. It looks like the top two photos do not even have a inspection cover and the bottom one is much larger than my 55 1st series, I take it is from your 58 correct?

Yes, the bottom one is from my 58. Its about the same height raise as the 54/55..but is raised over a much larger area.

I think the floor is the same in both, the trans covers are different.

Yes the floor should be the exact same, just the cover over the trans is different. The pic of the one in my 58 should show that the best (you can see the line where the cover meets the floor better), and the 54/55 should have a plate that can be replaced too.

Thanks for your help, I have more problems now that it is all mocked up. Everything fits too good !!!! By that I mean when I install the engine trans combo as a unit it fits within inches of the seat apron. Long term if I need to change throw out bearing or clutch everything will have to be removed or cut the floor and seat apron to move the transmission back to clear the bellhousing 5". Don't you just love these hot rods !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I tried to attach a photo but it is too large by 9kb
