Is this a custom console in Copperhead or is it out of some vehicle?? Does anyone have some good ideas for a console????

That whole truck is an excersize in gaudiness. IMO every time it is shown it devalues all the good trucks.
Back to the Q at hand...it kinda reminds me od a Fiero console...can anyone confirm/deny that? |

To me, it looks like a '69 up console for CST's, with the portion in front having been added to mount the shifter....and whatever else.

i cut out the sides from 3/4 mdf and used some 1/8 pvc i bought from a local sign shop. I layed the pvc on top and slowly heated it up and stapled into shape. go slow or it warps real bad, i paid 50 dollars for a 4x8 sheet of the pvc. the empty hole is where my power window switches go, still working on that.

hey lostwages, your interior is sweet. I had a buddy make a center console in his 70' c-10 but it got jacked here recently while making a trip to our local walmart. How did you make yours, it it just bad ass!

My rig is nothing more than a Turd in progress. now that i don't have some one tellin me I can't afford to do things, it'll be nice here in the fairly near future. I still feel the copper head was a waste of money. They were trying too hard and came up0 short in many aspects of the vehicle. That is just my opinion though...nothing more |

If I remember right, it was never even a real truck. I think all they had was a bare cab and frame...or was the frame a pre-fab too??? EVERYTHING else came from a catalog.

I would have to say more than a bare cab.

They bought all the fenders, some were NOS, some where re-stamps, the bed-sides, the hood, grill etc, bed-floor etc. If this is not considered a real truck, I think a lot of us will be out of luck soon as usually the goal IS to replace all that rusted crap. I know my goal is to eventually replace every panel so that it is a NEW truck, not a FAKE truck. I think Copperhead is one of the best done trucks I've seen. I LOVE the fact that it is not some far out heavily body-modded plastic looking girly truck. It has no bling-bling crap ass wheels like everyone and their Mom. It still looks like one of our trucks and is what I would like mine to be like one day (Except with step-sides).
Back to the question, not sure where that console is out of. You can make one that looks similar out of wood and apholstery material.

Gosh....I had no idea, I guess I'm getting ready to build a fake truck, because I going to use aftermarket non rusting sheet metal.

I guess I have about 60% imitation and 40% GM. I totally agree with JYJ on this one. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's no good. And if you don't understand it doesn't mean it makes no sence.

C'mon now, all I meant was that it never started out as a complete truck. They bought a cab and pieced it together. Once my truck is done it will have new cab corners/rockers and new front fenders, inner and outer, and a new core support. If I had an extra $4K it would have a brand new fleetside bed too...No-one ever said it was a fake truck. I think it's beautiful. Love the color. The console almost looks like a reworked 80's/90's camaro/firebird unit.

the first episode of Copperhead build, outlined the fact that they were showing the audience how someone could "build a cool street truck with just a cab, frame and title". If you notice, ECE (early classic enterprises) was the source for a majority of the parts on the project... hmmmmm.... I wonder if they make money off of this kinda build?

I didn't even realize that copperhead was finished. That interior is a little busy for my taste, but still well done. I'd like to see a few more pics of the finished product. Anyone got a link?

Lot's of the guys on this board are swapping/buying cabs and putting on their frames or frames they aqquired elsewhere. So are you saying when they get done their truck is not a "real" truck??? I understand it's not how it was coming out of the GM plant...but who really cares. I used aftermarket fenders on my 71' and they lined up so well I could not be more pleased. I intend on buying all new aftermarket fleet bedsides, front, and cross pieces to make a BRAND New Short Fleet wood floor bed....and when it's done and on my truck anyone who thinks it isn't real can KMA.

Hey lost wages... Just to make your life a bit easier if you ever need to do something like that again (bending a panel for the console top) there is a product known as "bender board" that makes quick work of that type of a project. It is a plywood type material that bends very easily. All you would need to do is push it down to the curve, like you did, and staple it in place. Then you could gain a significant amount of strength by doubling it with another layer with yellow wood glue between. You could then sand/round-over the edges, cut holes for switches or guages, etc.......and you can staple your upolstry to it too. It would be strong enough to make a hinged lid in that same curved shape too.
You may not find it at the typical home store but a real lumber yard or cabinet supply shop will have it. |
