Hood Won't Pop-Up '72
My hood has never really "popped-up" when I release the hood latch the hood only comes up slightly. I have replaced the hinges, but not the hinge springs. What's the solution? I have thought of buying a sping that goes over the catch stud. Any suggestions???

I recently oiled my hinges everywhere and it made a huge difference with the hood popping up. Nice and smooth!

None of mine have ever popped up either. My '69 is hard to open because the grill is pushed back slightly and it is hard to get my fingers between it. I did find that some good lubrication on all the pivot points of the hinges really helps make it easier to lift and close.

I saw a couple of trucks that had the spring on the stud and they looked factory. Don't know if they are or not but I put one on mine and it works great.

had the same problem a few days ago, hood wouldnt pop, and it always is easy. turns out it was frozen
 maybe the 1/2 of ice should have been a clue!

I just got a spring from pic a part off a camaro and put it on the stud.

The fix on mine was to rotate the rear of the hinge downward putting more tension on the spring when closed. I have a '72 GMC with the emblems shaved off the hood, so there is nothing to grab to lift it. Have to reach thru the grille to push up if it isn't set right.
