? on rear ends
Need a little help on this. Truck is a 72 GMC. I have a 67 and a 72 read end. I want to use the narrower 67 rear, but want to keep the 5x5 bolt pattern. Is there a factory 5x5 axel for the narrower rear end, or do I need to get an aftermarket set of axels?
If I need to go with aftermarket, do you guys have any suggestions? As usual, any and all help is appreciated. Thanks, Dan |

Inner axles wont interchange,(puts your brake shoes sticking out of the drums).
I would just use the 72 axle, the widths not that noticable you are only talking a few inches. If you are tubbing then get the width you really want. |

^ what he said.....there is only about 1 1/4" difference in the axle assys (5/8" per side). unless you have major issues on width, & tire size, the 72-72 diff would be the ticket you can get the axles through Moser, for around $260 a pair, with studs......crazyL

The tires I am going to be running are 29.5x 15.5 M/t Sportsman pro's. I have them on the truck now, and the outside of the tire I would like to get about another 1" of clearance on each side. (even 3/4" would be good.) The inside bed clearance really wouldn't be an issue, as I'll cut what needs to be cut. Right now I have about 3/4" (about a fingers width) between the tire and the bed.
As for brakes, I am converting to disc, so drums would not be a problem. I dont think it shows too good in this picture, but maybe you can tell. The truck has coilovers, and when I lower the back down, outside clearance is a small issue. Just a little more room would be good. I will try to get a better picture later. ECE also sells the replacement axles. I couldn't find a price in the catalog I have here but you can check their web page.
