Any help with this???
OK, I know this is about a "new" truck, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere else. I posted on the 88-98 board with no luck. I need something new with low miles because I drive to Athens Ga frequently, 220 miles round trip, and I go to NY about 3 times a year, 1500 miles round trip. I LOVE the 99-02 Z-71's almost as much as the 67-72 trucks. Here's the Q:
I am in the process of looking for an extended cab K-1500 '00-'02 Z-71. I know the '99 trucks only offered a 3rd door on extended cabs, so I'm not interested in a '99. I want the 4 door truck, the extended cab with the suicide rear doors. I hate going to dealers cause you can't look at something without them haggling you to buy it, so I've been looking online for trucks at local dealers. Online some of the extended cab trucks are listed as 2 dr and some as 4dr. I thought all extended cabs '00 and newer came with the 4 suicide door openings. I don't want a two door truck, they are a PIA! to get to the back seat, so does anyone know for sure if this was standard or an option?

First off I thought eh 4 door was an option in 99. I know the 3 door came in 97. To the best of my knowledge until the 03 year, the quad cab/4door was just an option. You could still get the extended cab with out the extra doors, although very few did.
Edit....Yes 2000 was first year and yes it was just an option. you could still get a 2 door and 3 door model silverado. http://www.internetautoguide.com/rev...ilverado/2000/

So, what your saying is almost all ex cabs came with the extra doors? I think on ex. cab they only had 3rd door in 99, but there was a 4 dr crew cab. A dealer told me that. When he kept hassling me to buy the truck and get my name/number etc..thats when I quit looking on lots. Again, not entirely sure. I really want a 99-02 ex cab 4 suicide door Z-71 w/ 5.3. Pisses me off you can't get a 5sp unless you get a six or 4.8. When I get a new truck I can start putting money into the 67 again!!! Thanks for the help Bill!

That was something I forgot to add in my edit, that some folks may call the crew cab a 4 door. But you were right about 2000 being first year that is was available. But it was just an option until the current body still.

first year for the true 4-door 1500 is 2005, I'm pretty sure. True 4-door as in all four doors have regular handles and open to the front. 2003 is the first year suicides were standard on all 1500's ext, and 2000 was the first year they were even an option.
Don't get the six. I've got a 2003 4.3, and while it will and has done anything I've ever asked it to do, it sure does it slow. I rented a 2003 4wd with a 5.4 in it, it was ridiculous. I got roughly twice the gas mileage out of the V8 as I did out of my v6. (My V6 also has a positive 3.73 rear end) 2003 is also the first year for the new body style, which I think is the best looking body style Chevrolet has put out in a long, long time. ok, I'm done. you didn't need any of that information.

No, I did, thanks! I love learning more about Chevys! But next to the 67-72 I love the 99-02, and getting anything smaller than a 5.3 is not an option for me. Kinda ticked they dropped the 5.7 from the truck line.... I don't remember the exact #'s, but the 4.8 and 5.3 are very close in HP but the 5.3 kicks it butt in torque. I want to pull stuff!

I'm going to a dealer auction that handles lots of these trucks in statesville, NC. Don't ask how....not supposed to tell, but the guy I'm going with claims I can get a truck, 99-02 Z-71 ex cab for as low as 14K-18K. Dealerships have them listed around 18-20K. I won't buy a new truck because they are a rip off. I am still lookin online cause you just never know when a good deal will come along. Plus, I drive about 30K a year. I travel a lot. I like peace of mind.
