Question Body swap, good idea?

Alright, i have a 69 chevy c-10 with the 250, and a 3 speed. I also have a line on a 70 chevy k-10 or 20 (not sure which, haven't seen it yet) with a v8, auto, but the body is really rough for $500. The drivetrain, frame and such are supposed to be in fairly good condition.

The project, i was thinking about buying the 70 and taking the body off the 69 (redo it while it is off) and put that body on the 4x4 frame. Good idea, bad idea? How hard will this be to do? I would also paint the frame, axles, and such while it is down to the frame, and freshen up the motor. Any idea of the cost of parts needed to do this swap?

Thanks for any help or suggestions

JT Jones

It's straight forward work. If you tried, it would be a good weekend project. It's doing detail painting that will slow you down.

I did a frame swap on my dually in 2 days. That included stripping it to the bare frame and swapping suspension stuff and the whole drivetrain to the new frame and then putting all of the truck back together.

It will probably take me a couple months do everything. Between rebuilding the engine, prepping and spraying everything, and all the other odds and ends, and going to college and working at the same time. I'll prolly start buying everything i need now that way i have everything there when i get ready to swap.

I already plan on freshing up the engine. I'm guessing i should go ahead and run all new brake hardware, body mounts, bearings and bushings while it is tore down? What are some good sites to get parts for these trucks (remember, i'm a college kid working on a shoestring budget)?

Any other suggestions or help is appreciated. And when i do everything i'll be sure to take lots o' pictures.

Thanks

Well i went to look at the donor 4x4 truck today. Turns out that the truck is a 75 model not a 70 model. Is this swap still do able? What about throwing the drivetrain under my 2wd chassis?

Any one recomend any companies to deal with. I've found the bigger ones, like LMC, Chevy duty, year one, and JC whitney. Any smaller, or internet based companies i should look into for parts?

Thanks
