Thumbs up ford 9" rearend direct swap?

Hey guys. Just looking for some confirmation here. I was told recently (yesterday), that the rearend from a 1978-1983 Lincoln Mark V would swap right in to one of our trucks ( I have a 69). I was also told that this is a disk rear from the factory, and it has the 5 on 5 pattern like our Chevy's. I spoke with someone who said that he had done it, and all he had to do was get brackets welded on to his frame for the leaf springs. He said that there was a 1/2" difference in the width, but he made it up in wheel backspacing. He also changed the gears in the center chunk, because the town car was too tall. He said total out of pocket was about $500 to go Ford 9", rear discs, and matching bolt pattern! Is this too good to be true? Has anyone else heard of this crossover? Thanks

The U-joints are different, I don't know about the bolt pattern though.

do a search, i think i saw one recently about such a swap. and there are several problems with the swap. I dont know how to link ,but maybe youll find it its there!

Thre bolt pattern is correct but as said u-joints and driveshaft length will be issues as will mounting pads and a panhard mount if a coil truck. It is by no means a DIRECT swap.

I'VE GOT A 9" OUT OF A 75 LINCOLN MARKIV. IT'S ABOUT 1 3/4 WIDER THAN A 12 BOLT (NO BIGGIE). IT HAS A 5 ON 5 BOLT PATTERN JUST LIKE OUR TRUCKS & YOU ALSO GET DISC BRAKES. I GOT MINE FROM A BONEYARD FOR AROUND $100. I THEN TOOK IT TO A FRIEND WHO OWNS A DRIVELINE SHOP, & SWAPPED A BUNCH OF PARTS TO HAVE HIM COMPLETELY GO THRU IT WITH ALL NEW BEARINGS AND SEALS, NEW RING & PINION, (WENT WITH 355-1 GEARS) & A BRAND NEW POSI UNIT. IT'S GOING IN MY ONGOING PROJECT , AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GET IT UNDER THERE. I JUST ORDERED PERCHES FRIDAY TO WELD ONTO THE REAR END & BOLT TO THE TRAILING ARMS. AS FAR AS A PANHARD BAR, I CUT THE BRACKET OFF OF A EARLY 60s TRUCK. THEY ARE ON THE AXEL TUBE INSTEAD OF THE PUMKIN LIKE OURS. I'VE GOT AN ADJUSTABLE PANHARD BAR. THE $500 PRICE TAG IS PROBABLY PRETTY CLOSE FOR THE INITIAL COST + THE RING & PINION SWAP. TO GO THRU IT COMPLETELY, WITH A NEW POSI UNIT IS PROBABLY MORE LIKE $1000-$1200 BUT YOU'LL HAVE A BULLET PROOF REAR END, THAT YOU CAN SWAP FROM TRUCK TO TRUCK AS YOU CHANGE DAILY DRIVERS. JOHN

That seems like a cheaper way to go vs. the aftermarket. IMO

I THINK IT WOULD PROBABLY BE ABOUT THE SAME PRICE, BY THE TIME YOU BOUGHT A DISC KIT, ROTORS & CALIPERS. BUT IF YOU WENT WITH THE 9" , AT LEAST YOUD HAVE A REAR END THAT WOULD STAND UP TO ANY MOTOR YOU USE. JOHN

I thought the mark V already was a disc setup?

it is already a disk rear but your not going to want to use the cruddy calipers with dried up seals and rotors that are most likely rusted and pitted bad not to mention dry rotted brake hoses
