Was this an option item?
I pulled this today from a '71 C-20, it has a 6-spring pack and this slider contrapion for pulling the rear bumper out. I'm guessing that this was a Camper Special Bumper? I really don't know since the truck was half stripped when I got it. Darn thing weighs about 170lbs whole.

Could be just an old DMI bumper?

That's what the bumper assy(?) looked like on my 70 GMC when I got it. Didn't have a camper, so I stripped it off long ago. Dumb huh?

We had a bumper like that on our '72 Ford Ranger Camper Special when I was a kid. Dad could slide the bumper out beyond the back of the camper and slide it back in when the camper was off.

Dealer item as LHM says or lots of guys built their own. Big, heavy and always in the way. They were a killer in the dark after you unloaded the camper and forgot to slide them back into place late Sunday evening. You could hear the screams and cursing from around the neighborhood as the drunken guys hit their shins on them. I learned a whole bunch of words that way!
