i dont know length wise...it was a 3 speed manual truck before. i was told it will be a direct fit to the TH350. i cleaned it out with a little wire brush before installing. i was told there is a bushing in the tail shaft and i might have to sand the driveshaft yoke a little? is that true?

Make sure the splines are not twisted on the output shaft of the tranny or the yoke. The slip yoke should be able to go all the way into the tranny.

it goes really easy almost exactly half way...then stops. if they were twisted it would twist at the end right?

Stick it in there till it bottoms and mark it with a Sharpie, then remove it and stick your finger into the yoke and see if it's bottomed out at that depth.

If there is any rust on the yoke, you may as well remove the tailhousing and change the seal now before you puke fluid onto the ground. Trying to put in the rusty yoke will have damaged the seal. Yokes are to be polished smooth and rust free with emery cloth or crocus cloth.

Something is wrong. It should go on to the red line. The yoke looks good in the pics.

If it's a used bushing, it should definitely be loose enough to work. I've never had to do anything to the bushing to make the yoke fit, ever.

burr

There must be a burr on one of the splines. If you still have the 3 speed, try reinserting the shaft into it. If it goes all the way, then the burr is on the tranny output shaft. Take the tailcone off & run your finger nail up & down all of the splines on both sides & all the way to the bottom of the grooves. The other possibility is that the output shaft is twisted near the center of the splined area.
