My fault , when I set the poll up I was figuring you could only have one tranny in your truck, wasn't thinking about multiple trucks......Sorry...................JB

As far as i know its the original TH400 in mine..... i noticed though that its the tube filter when i was changing my fluid, instead of the flat filter, wasn't that a 67 thing and changed in 68 or was my truck just a lucky one to get the tube? I can get the numbers off the side to check if it helps, i think i would like to know!

NP435CR. Good trans, but a 4.56:1 1st is just too high. Not enough gear reduction or torque multiplication. An SM420 or CH465 would be perfect.

FIVE SPEEDS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless you are in traffic, or have a cramp in your left leg, or need your wife to use the truck for a day or so, or need to move about a 1/2 inch to line up the trailer hitch. 96 chevy 1/2 ton 5speed = light weight, strong, cheep, and very practical for most applications---with 20-22mpg hgwy. (:>)
