If the seat in that thing is original to the truck, what's it look like? It appears to have a seat cover over it.

i haven't pulled it off to look. from what i can tell it is white so i'm guessing it is not the original covering. plus it is broken down pretty bad.

Well here's why I ask. In 72 Chevy introduced a mid-year trim package called the Highlander. Your truck has all the earmarks (tilt, auto,a/c, custom deluxe). If it's a highlander it will have a white vinyl seat with plaid cloth inserts. Your truck should also have white door panels and visors, with a black dash pad and black carpeting (if it's a highlander). I see the door panel is black, but it looks swapped out as it's not a custom deluxe panel anyway. Someone may have liked black better with the maroon repaint. So, tell me more about your seat

thanks. if you look at the bottom of the fire wall in the last pic you can see that it used to be yellow. i'm not sure which one, but it was the lighter of the two shades.

ok. i haven't done much more than pull back the corners to peek underneath the cover, but from what i can tell from that and looking through the seatbelt cutouts in the cover you have hit the nail on the head. when it gets warmer out i will pull the cover and see what i really have.

So, are these Highlander things special or something? The reason I ask is because apparently I have one. Well, at least my interior indicates I do, I'll have to check the glove box tag, but my truck is a 72 custom deluxe longbox, orange and white with upper and lower trim and chrome trim around the windshield also. It has the chrome centers on all the dash knobs, black dash, and a white vinyl seat with yellow plaid inserts. The carpet is missing, so it may have been black. It is a 350 4 barrel with a 3 speed auto, AM radio, manual brakes and power steering (may have been added on by previous owner).

Can you buy replacement white door panels, arm rests and plaid seat covers for these trucks, or will I have to settle for houndstooth on the seat and black door panels. This old truck of mine might be an interesting resto after all

And ezernut, I must say that is one nice old chevy. I wish the one I'm starting with looked that good.
