Temp. Sender

The tempeture gauge in my dash doesnt work. And I got a new temp. sender today but I cant find any info on it in my book. What's involved with switching these, and might this solve my problem?

It's easy. Just pull out your gauge cluster, then remove the metal back cover, and just remove the screws/nuts that hold the gauge to the printed circuit. Be careful because sometimes the printed circuit can get stuck to the nuts and it is easy to tear it when you try to remove the nut. On my truck I have the sending unit mounted in the water neck on the intake manifold, and it reads right in the middle of the gauge.

Sending unit is real easy to replace. It's either in the side of the head between #1-3 cylinders or in the intake manifold near the thermostat housing. Simply unplug the wire and unscrew the sending unit. Put the new one in with either teflon tape or a non-hardening thread sealer with teflon on the threads. Then plug the wire back in.

If you're quick, there's no need to drain the coolant out of the engine. Just have the new one setting there with goop on it already and work quick.
