Heavy half (and big 10) 2wd trucks were 5 lug.
All 73-87 1/2 ton 4x4 trucks were 6 lug.

Yeah..........they are different animals alright.
I don't know what to call mine but it has the big brakes and the 3/4 ton rear springs. I thought GM quick calling them "names" and just let you order one with the options as you saw fit by '84. |

The spindles are completely different because the 5 lug is two wheel drive and the 6 lug is a 4x4. The spindle for a 5 lug isn't part of an axle like the 6 lug is. You can't use a 6 lug spindle on a 5 lug truck, just won't work.A picture would work the best, any one got one to help me out here?

I'm putting the whole front off of a 73-87 2wd under my 69 2wd. Trying to make up my mind whether I should go 5 lug all around (redrill the rear axles) or whether I could come up with 6 lug rotors without a redrill.

In the middle 70's GM did offer a 1/2 ton 2wd with optional 6 lug. I've seen a few 2wd 1/2 ton with the option and 16" wheels. Also I had a 77 Suburban 4wd 6 lug at the same time as a 76 SB pickup 4wd that was a 5 lug. Go figure!
