402BB sound clips (and other)
These sound clips are cold motors cranked in 40 something degree weather and run for a few minutes to get oiled up.

Or maybe the carb needs some more massaging (Holley 750 elec choke)? |

With cable it toook less than a minute each.
I just love the sound of a nice 402 hitting a few revs!! |

Yeah you can't take that truck anywhere without someone asking about it, the boys that load the hay and feed I get at the feed mill always comment about how bad it sounds, I usually oblige by at least chirping a little rubber when I pull out with my goat feed. That's just something you ain't gonna get in a riced out civic Now in all fairness, you can't go nowhere in that Lightning either without getting asked about it. Both my trucks are attention getters, can't wait to get that 72 kinda halfway finished though, might go ahead and get the rims and tires put on it, those 15x10 (x8 on front) smoothies with new thick rubber will undoubtedly make it stand out more!

The PO did something to the cam, everyone agrees it ain't stock, though frankly I think it's too wild, the lack of good vacuum gets on my nerves to be honest and I'm considering going to a (what is probably) a milder cam as I'm most interested in peak performance from idle thru around 4500 or 5000 rpm, and not high rpm usage. When I got it, other than the cam I believe it was mostly stock, it was supposedly rebuild around 15K miles ago, but the PO didn't elaborate.
I put a PPlus uhm, Cyclone? (dual plenum) Intake on it, a Holley 750 w/elec choke, and headers on it. It already had dual flowmaster 40's and the 700r4. I also put new springs to lower it front and rear, and a front sway bar on it. Also had a good bit of the front end replaced with new parts as it was showing wear. Once I get time the rear end is going from 3.08 standard (non posi) to 3.73 posi, then I'm gonna run a couple 1/8's in it down at the strip just for funsies see how she runs out, knowing full well I'll probably only get one or 2 passes in then have to tow her home because 2 people who've looked at it already warned me that my 700r4 is straight factory and won't never live long behind a big block and my lead foot, but my cousin is married to the son of the owner of one of the better transmission shops around, so I've already talked to him and as soon as I'm ready they're gonna build me up a nice firm 700r4 and swap it out for me, no need in swapping until the one in there now is really in need of replacing. Besides, just cause two mechanics said it won't last don't mean that it really won't last, I mean heck, they also said NO 700r4 will last behind a built big block no matter what was done to it, I didn't argue the point but seems to me if that were true, bowtieoverdrives wouldn't be selling those 700r4s claiming the stage 4 is good for like 600+hp/torque if NO 700r4 can handle the horsepower and torque of my mildly upgraded 402.... I'm thinking of going one piece driveshaft at that time as well (it's two piece now and that seems like it has to be weaker than a single). Dunno that'll take some more digging to see if it's worth it or not. When I swap the rear I'll also look at doing something to minimize spring give on launch too, traction bars I suppose is the order of the day. Oh, and airbags, at least on the rear, are next on my list, so I can stiffen up the ride when I want in case I need to haul something serious, like brick or shingles or something. Also lowering it put my rear like literally .5 inch too low, it seems to me (and others argue otherwise) that the rear end sits like .1 inch lower than the front and that bugs me to death. Then it's the interior, then painting it. I got everything but new door panels and headliner for the interior - Dakota Digital dash, chrome bits to replace just about everything that can be with chrome, 40/20/40 seats, new carpet, about 60 sq/ft of sound deadener, and a decent stereo system for some tunes, and a rear sliding window, I just can't have a truck without rear sliding glass (and tinted windows too). Get all that done, and the A/C fixed and it'll be time to get my 74 Dart Sport outta storage and get her back on the road and race worthy. I want to have a nice display of muscle in my driveway from all 3 american schools of muscle when I'm done. |
