tailgate help.....!!

i need to know how to remove the tailgate from my 71.....i remove the support straps and let it all the way down.but i do not see how to remove it from the body brackets.....please lend a hand

There are 2 bolts that have to be removed from the body side of the hindge. The top one unbolts with the gate open the other 1 is between the gate and the bumper. After removing those 2 bolts you have to slide 1 side of the gate up to almost a 45 degree angle then pull outwards...

It can be made like that. My dad did it with the gate on the 69 bed that's on my truck now...

You forgot to mention the scraping of the paint and cussing and spitting and the screamin at the kids and the kickin the dog and the bleeding knuckles..... did I mention screamin at the kids?.....

I just changed mine out last week.
