VENT: Shipping Nightmares
I had heard the horror stories. People shipping vehicles and had all kinds of problems, but I like many thought "what are the chances?"
Well I bought a clean 71 stepside from half a country away thinking I would be seeing it in 10-14 days just as the shipping people had promised me. And with real time GPS tracking, it is even going to be fun in the process right? Wrong. Real time GPS tracking kept me up to date on how the vehicle was sitting at the origination terminal, then it moved... wait no, still at the terminal... then, oh crap still at the terminal. Day before the truck is supposed to arrive it is still sitting at the origination terminal. So I call, and I was informed that the current ETA was no longer valid, it would now be 4 days later than expected. Well ok, I can deal with that. Then the next day I get a call, "sir we can't start your vehicle, it has a dead battery, so we are unable to load it". Well that's weird, the terminal was a towing company. The towing company can't start a vehicle with a dead battery? That's odd. So I call the guy I am buying the vehicle from and ask him to take a look since I am halfway across the country. I hated to inconvenience him on a vehicle he had sold and should be done with. Of course he didn't mind, good thing I bought from a nice guy. If he had said no I guess it would have sat there forever, since the towing company can't start a vehicle with a dead battery. So now it has been 2 weeks, the truck hasn't moved... and who knows when it will. My ETA is null and void now since they weren't able to start it and get it on the truck it was supposed to leave on. It took 2 weeks for a truck to come get it so I am guessing I am in for another 2 weeks before I see it move. That is, if it starts. My personal belief is that these people are stalling and I don't have a clue what a course of action would be against them. From what I see, I am at their mercy and it will take as long as they want it to until I see that truck. Can anyone share a similar experience and perhaps offer some suggestions?

All I can say is that truly sucks...but when you finally get the truck it will all be in the past. There's nothing worse than waiting on something, especially when it's their BS. The main thing is to remember...you will get it!

Vouch For The Shipping Nightmares That I Had With "gq" The Only Advice I Can Give You Is None, Sorry, Since It's Already At Their Terminal About The Only Thing You Can Do Is Call Them Everyday, And I Mean Everyday, Ask For The Person In Charge Everyday, And I Mean Everyday, Complain Like A Lil Baby Everyday, And I Mean Everyday, And Maybe They Will Get Fed Up With You And Ship It, Or Better Yet Send It Back To The Guy You Bought It From And You Can Arrange P/u By Another Company, Sorry, I Know This Didn't Help Much.

Call tomorrow, get the manager on the phone and ask him what course of action he would take if he was preparing to start the work day and one of his trucks wouldn't start.
Sounds like crap to me, the worst part is short of getting on a plane and flying out there to jumpstart your truck, you're kinda helpless. Best of luck to you, hook us up with some pics when you finally get it...........Jerry

nathank, Im going into the shipping business. Im also very close to nevada. I will not have a dissatisfied customer. If you are interested in me moving it let me know. And to anyone else Im happy to try and help out. I will be charging 1.00 a loaded mile at first. Your auto will arrive how it left and will usually arrive within 2-3 days. Thanks and i have went thru this as well. Thats why I think theres a market for a high quality mover.

Man, that sucks. I bought my truck from Alabama and I live in California. I used DAS. My truck had a dead battery, but they jumped it and got it here 10-days prior to the ETA. When I went to pick it up, they jumped it for me and helped me get it on the trailer (it was really tight on the U-HAUL with 275/60R15's. I hope they come through for you.

If you want the name and number of the guy (individual, not company) that moved my '68 C10 from Oklahoma to Michigan, let me know via pm. He was VERY reasonable, and my truck was never anywhere buy on the back of his trailer, somewhere on the free-way from OK to MI.

They're stalling, hoping you just leave it there. I would get a ride out there with a friend and get your truck before they tell you that they can't find it. I don't want to scare you, but I have heard many horror stories.

Maybe you can have a fellow board member who lives there go down there and physically.look at truck and make sure that everything is ok.and that it will get on the truck the next time around...Good Luck............

They reversed the polarity when they tried to jump the truck off and apparently screwed some wiring up. Luckily the guy I bought it from went up there and straightened them out. So now it is "supposedly" going to leave in the next couple days.
