hi all,,i'm rebuilding a 1976 K-10 stepside. MY question is i bought a 1978 cab that was only a 2 wheel drive so it has the small hump,underneath the truck in the hump is what appears to be like a cut out all the way around,it appears as though it would be the correct cut out for a 4 wheel drive,kinda like when the cabs were made they could be used for either 4 or 2 wheel. DOES anyone know anything about this or may have done it before..thank you all for any help..

I swapped a '78 2X auto cab onto my '73. The '73 is a stick, so I had to cut out the floor on the '78, and used the hump from the '73. The hump on your 4X should unbolt from the floor. I used 1/4" sheetmetal screws to attach the hump to the '78, with a little seam sealer. Been like that for 10 years with no problems....

There are at least three different cab floors used on these trucks. 2wd autos have a short hump that doesn't unbolt. 4x4 autos have a tall hump that doesn't unbolt. Manual trans trucks have a hump that unbolts. I've heard others say that they had a factory auto truck with a trans hump that unbolted.

You can use the 2wd cab by modifying it in the trans hump area or using a 2" body lift.

the cover on the 4x4 floor hump unbolts but on the 2 wheel drive,78 cab there is no cover to unbolt,it is just a "short hump" but stamped into the hump of the 78 2 wheel drive cab is a cut out ,or what looks like a cut out i thought may be for a 4x4 ? thanks to all

i will try to take some pic's tommorrow of what i am talking about.

here are the pics of the 2 wheel drive cab hump i am talking about,it appears if you follow these lines it would be correct for 4 wheel drive?? thank you

Yup, IIRC all you have to do is cut on the line.

I remember that I actually used the hump as a template to drill holes, then I used "U" nuts and the factory bolts to secure the hump to the floor as the original tunnel had welded in nuts.

thank you hemikiller,thought it was,wanted to make sure,my old cab (the 4x4) has the nut's welded underneath also,,so sounds like the same deal,,again thanks for the help.....
