I know there is a little overspray, but for three Dos XX in an hour I think I did a great job.

Whats the story with the heads..... are they getting painted or no? For the overspray, get yourself some laquer thinner and go to work... it'll come off nicely, just watch the stuff you don't want to take off, because its an equal opportunity killer. Bet you can't wait to drop it in huh??

time is ticking.....
make sure you locate a 24hr autozone (although I would hate to put you through that...) seems like the last 2 of my installs have required something at 2:00 am unfortunately mine was a compression tester to deliver the the toasted valve news....If you need someone to get in the way(i.e. drink your beer) let me know.
I'm always glad to help! |

The heads are gonna stay unpainted. I've always though heads should be weathered though. I chose Ruby Red because I couldn't find Crimson anywhere, and My interior is gonna be blood red. Dirtdobber, I may need some help I'm not too sure though, thanks. I am getting really excited now. It makes it hard to focus on my homework.

Nice looking setup!
Just from experiece side of things here but if those head aren't aluminum, they are gonna be looking like a big rust pile in no time without some sort of protection. I would definitely paint or clear them....but thats just me.

carb cleaner will get that over spray, you could also get a q-tip and clean them freeze plugs to get that detailed look...

I do like the looks of the natural color heads. Hopefully you can keep them looking good.

I painted one in the truck with great resulte, but I stripped it down pretty well too. I removed everything off the front I didn't want orange..which, I was in there working already so it was no big deal. Then, I towed it to the coin op car wash, and spent 5 bucks, along with 3 cans of sludge-off and a stiff brush. Then when it dried off, I sprayed it with brake cleaner and wiped it down. Don't bother trying to get teh sides down below the heads, no one will see it, and it is nearly impossable to do. Anything that you can not remove (frame rails, crossmembers)cover with alluminum foil. It will stay there when you wrap it on.
Then, while your waiting for all that to day, you should detail everything that you removed. This will give it that 'done' look. Also, if you paint the bolt heads black, it'll look better. I didn't do that, and later wished I had. Put it together and take pictures... Like I did. (I painted this in the truck...no bull) |

I have painted engines in vehicle before, usually I take the time while doing a water pump replace, or whatever. I also remove the valve covers and really do them up extra nice, since they recieve the most attention visually. I always wanted to stamp the name Chevrolet on my otherwise plain valve covers, like was done in the 50's. In block letters, done to look factory. But, I have not, but it would look nice, letters painted a different color. Got the idea from working on my '56 olds, it says oldsmobile rocket, and looks sharp. Never seen it in any shows or anything, usually everybody just goes chrome.
Oh, and I was just teasing on the "pink" thing, I have a colonial red trim that was called pink by everybody for a long time.

The **** of it is I was really looking for crimson but no one makes it. The closest two were Ruby red, and Chrysler red, and a Chrysler color was not going on the SBC.
