LED REVERSE LIGHTS! Pic

I just installed a replacement 1156 bulb with 30!! super bright LEDs in my reverse lights. They look really sweet. They have that HID white look instead of yellow with the stock incandesent bulbs. the pic is with one of each bulb so you can see the difference. The *cool* thing is that the LED run cool. I couldn't even grab the stock bulb to replace it is was so hot. Super White + Super Cool temp + Less Current = sweet mod.

Next is LED tail lights as soon as I get them.

I got them off cheezebay. Am I allowed to post links in ths board? Here ya go: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WDVW

this is the same company where I bought mine. They are a DIRECT replacement. They are really wide (like 1 3/8" I think) they warn you if you have restrictive light housings that you might want to get the 24 LED version, but I wanted MORE LIGHT! They fit perfect. they are close to the housing side, but don't touch.

Thanks for your compliments!

I love LED's. There was a board member who made and sold tail light LED assemblies. You can get them now, from Early Classic Enterprises.

Before I found out about those, however, I had already bought a pair of 1157 replacement bulbs from a company called Ledtronics. They are altogether different from those that APC markets. The APC bulbs are garbage. I couldn't get one of them installed in my parking light sockets. The plastic part contacted the metal of the socket, preventing the bulb from seating and locking in place. The Ledtronics bulbs are super bright. They have LED's around the perimeter of the bulb, that reflect off of the bowl of the tailliight housing. The other bulbs all are aimed to the rear. There is a large LED in the center of the bulb, with smaller ones around it. I think there is a total of 24 LED's in each bulb. They weren't cheap, though, at $98 for the pair, delivered. But, like everything else, you get what you pay for. The APC bulbs were lot cheaper, but are no good. So, the money is wasted.

Hmmm, that ebay guy had red and yellow led replacement bulbs too. (rubs hands) The red 1157 ones only have 19 leds though. I wonder if the 30 white led one would look good in my brake lights. for $15 its worth it to try...

I'll attest to that. I got some 1157 amber bulbs for the front clear signals and they only had 12 LEDs. They were like a 10th of the brightness of the standard bulb. So if you have a big housing you need lots of LEDs beacuse the viewing angle on LEDs is only 125 degrees where a regular bulb is 360.

Has anyone checked out what kind of current 650 leds will pull? How about 60 leds vs 2 incadescent 1157 bulbs?

Chevibubba if I remember correctly 70c10 had his tail lights custom made from ruemister(sp)and i think they have a blue set of leds in the center although those could belong to a different board member..

Frenchblue 72 is correct on the builder but mine don't have the blue dots. I remember those and they were very cool also. The guy who built mine changed his name to bagged72blaz. They are styled after the newer Caddilac cars. At night they only have the inside half lit up but when you hit the brakes or turn the blinker on the whole thing lights up!. Here are some old pics.

I made his custom door panels in exchange for these. I'm guessing he would charge about $150-$175 but don't quote me on that. You would have to ask him directly. Ryan does excellent work as you can see.

hey GreyHoundSteve, what did you do about the front turn signal bulbs? I tried LEDs but they are barely even visible compared to the stock bulb.

I have a modified front grill but it is basically the stock turn signals cut and refaced. I used a peice of clear lexan instead of the stock lense so i had to go with amber led's. I bought most my led's from this site. http://www.superbrightleds.com/1157.htm
I cant remember which size i used because i bought every size at one point and test fitted each one so that i had the biggest that would fit in each socket. I have all my led's in a box right now because im still trying to get all my body work done still and hit a major road bump in mounting my seats. I have autometer phantom gauges and i used the large cluster replacement 194's in them and they look sweet. All my interior bulbs are blue led's but almost every light in my truck is out of a late model vehicle because my interior is a complete custom job. I had been hitting it hard and heavy but about 2 weeks ago we got a ton of work in and we got to get some of it out the door before we can pick back up on the project so everythings been on hold for awhile. Led's arent cheap but man do they look cool and you should never have to replace them either. I got my led tail lights from a board member named Frank. I havent installed them yet either but they look pretty good and were priced below what ece sells them for.
Some other good sources for led's i found are:
http://www.autodirectsave.com/Small_bulbs.asp
http://www.lightlens.com/coloredbulbs.htm
http://www.eled.com//
http://autolumination.com/otherleds.htm

Forgot to mention that i also went with electronic flashers. They are suposed to fix most led flasher problems. I also have led's in my side mirrors as well. My truck is still all apart so i dont know for certain if everything will work as planned but in a bench test all my led's out peformed the bulbs they replaced.

I wonder if this first one would fit on a stepside...
http://www.superbrightleds.com/truck_lights.htm

The price is cheap, 60+ LEDs each, and there is a 3 hole mounting
bracket that looks right. I should go home and measure my light enclosure.
