kick panels Vs. 6x9's in the door.

What would say has a better sound?
6.5 component speakers in kick panels or 6x9's mounted in the door in our trucks?

Or is there a better audio config?

kickpanels and components will rock over 6x9 at least good ones.

do both. I dont think you can get the same amount of midbass out of a 5-1/4's. I run them both in my '85 and it kicks a$$

Kick panels will work well with speakers that you don'[t want much base response out of. There is no or very little clearance behind the speaker for any reverberation to give the sound depth. A speaker that is doing nothing but highs or even some mid range sounds will work in the kick panels, but the 6x9 in the door will give a more of a mid base sound. I put an 8" speeaker in my kick panels with some offset box building and then put a 6" and 2" tweeter where the door trash pocket used to be. It seems to work well for me.

I think the power window motor sits exactly where you want to put the 6x9's

On manual doors it works fine.

Yea if you have power windows the motor mounting bracket is in the way .I put 5 1/4 speakers in mine and had to grind some of the mount off to clear the magnet. If you want to go much bigger you'll have to build door panels.

kick panels will give you the best imaging for your highs. i have a three piece component set with a 5.25 and a 6.5 mid bass driver. being that bass frequencies are non directional, you could even mount them towards the rear of the door if you wanted. this is probably what i will do. so i will have tweeters and 5.25 in kicks and 6.5 in the doors or maybe i will do buckets and build a custom console and mount them there.

Well you could look at it objectively based on money, and know that if you put 6x9s in the door its free, as in your just cutting metal. Kick panel enclosures, even if you fabricate them yourself, you have to invest money into making them.

That is of course a moot point since the whole point of this is JAMMING! I have my 6x9s in my door and they sound awesome. I was amazed at the bass they put out. And the vent slots in the door act like a bass port and the whole door acts like an enclosure. The downside to the doors is of course hacking up the door right there in the bottum is difficult b/c it is reinforced for the door hinges and it is a BIA to cut that stuff.

I will agree with everything being said. My 6x9's sound good but I have trouble with the driver's door grazing the wires and breaking them. About every 7-8 months I have to splice the wires back together because the door is a little too close to the cab. I know, move the door out dummy. I plan to when I get my new door pins.
