Water in TH350
Someone gave a TH350 that was supposed to be good. I put it into my '67 stepside and started the engine but did not drive it. I went to service the tranny and found lots of water in the tranny fluid. I think maybe the tranny and sat in the rain and filled with some water. I removed the pan and am draining it. I think I will just fill it with good fluid, change the filter and have another go at it. Check it before I drive it and see if it is clear...maybe change it a couple more times until clear. Any other thoughts?

No tranny fluid in the radiator? You prolly checked that already.

Andy...thanks! I have two other trannys so it is only a matter of time and the PIA factor to change it out for a working unit...but I hate going backwards.
Mario...air/oil tranny cooler but this tranny might have been on a rad before and that may be where the water came from. I don't know how much damage water can do to the clutch discs is my main concern.

The best way might be a power flush. The poor mans way is to buy several cases of tranny fluid, remove the top cooling line at the radiator and run a hose to a large bucket. Pour the tranny fluid in while the engine is running. You will pump out the bad water/transfluid mixture. Then change the filter and you should be good to go. I had to do this last year because the radiator had a hole in the trans cooler. The water went into the trans and turned everything foamy Pepto-abismal pink.

As long as you don't have rust in there you should be ok...but if it sat for a while you're in for a big rebuild.
