Measuring width of rally rims
How do you measure accurately the width of rally rims? In other words, if someone is selling 15x7 or 15x8 rims, how and where do you measure the width? I have found some 15x8 rims for example, I think...they measure 7 and 3/4 from lip to lip...is this a 15x8?? Help!

The correct way to measure rim width is "between" the rim lips where the tire seats against the lip, not outside to outside. Don't look for it to be exactly 7" or 8". A good many people measure the total width outside lip to outside lip and that's wrong.

Inside the wheel lips. Right at 8". I just went out and measured my 7" truck ralleys. Right at 7" inside.

If it helps any they are stamped on the back inside the rim 15x8 or 15x7 whatever they are. If they gm truck rims that's what I have noticed about them.

When measuring a wheel w/a tire still on, typical factory wheel bead lips are .5" x 2 sides so subtract 1" from the outside lip-to-lip measurement for the width. If theres no tire on the rim you can just measure from bead lip to bead lip.
EX: Van ralleys measure 7.5" outside lip-to-lip. They are 6.5" wide.
