$5000 sounds kinda low if you want to beat a twin turbo 460. I'd suggest a Sportsman crank, lunati rods, J&E 10:1 pistons. Some Dart alluminum heads with 2.05's and a 200shot of N20. That should get you there, make sure you have that bottom end built though...

judas, that's one tall order. any specs on how fast those other 2 are? Umm well you're gonna need some major building, forged parts and all that jazz. Hmm, well fiberglass will help the weight, but dunno about traction, trucks arent known for hookup
Well i'd say if you've got a good 400, use the lightest assembly you can, ultra light forged crank, aluminum connecting rods, forged pistons, killer aluminum heads all ported and polished, prolly like some from AFR. Regarding intake it depends on your rpms but i think you'll definately wanna go with a blower or somethign of that nature. CR is a big thing, the higher you can go safely the more power and more efficient that motor will be. If this thing is gonna be a racer then build it like one, if you want a daily cruzer that is blazingly fast its VERY hard to accomplish i'd wager. Sorry i didnt give any specifics just some thoughts i had. good luck!

Playing around on desktop dyno, i have found that AFR heads outflow just about everything else. I built a 406 SBC on there, and they performed better than Edelbrock RPM's, Dart IE, and everything else i put them against. But, that is a computer program, and it is only so accurate. Why not just build a big-block? Parts may not be as cheap, but there is no replacement for displacement . And for racing, a NV4500 isn't the best tranny. It is great for using as a truck, but i would pick a street-style tranny for hauling a$$ at the dragstrip.

on the hooking up thing, thats why im leaving a steel bed but making the front light
i know the power-joke will run at LEAST 110, and thats not wound out yet... its ina 95ish ford f-350 wrecker.. the 460, im not sure because they havent got it yet.. but it will be in a F-350 rollback one thing about it, i would like to make it not noticeable that ive got anything (except for the low deep rumbling exhaust and the lumpy cam)then after i kick his ***, pop open the hood and show him what i had.. only reason im doing this, is because he gaurenteed me i couldnt take either of there trucks... so of course nwo i have to show him up i would just like to be able to occasionally drive it, because the daily driver will be a 74 chevy 3/4 ton 2wd with 6.2 diesel and TH400

Stroke that 400. You'll gain alot of torque that way. Forged goodies and all that jazz. You'll be cutting it pretty close with 5000.00 though. You'll go over budget I promise.
