I've been looking for an engine to put in my truck so I can pull and clean up the 350 that's in my truck right now. Well there was this '70 c10 without a bed sitting out at the local j-yard. I went and checked it out and the truck is complete, except for the stepside bed. Has a three on the tree, just a plain jane truck.The engine that's in it is the original 307 w/ 2bbl carb, it even has both ramhorn manifolds that turn back. So I asked how much he wanted for the whole engine with carb, manifolds, alternator, etc and he says 250 bucks. I was told it runs great. He's supposed to have it pulled on Monday. Is this a good deal for this engine?

Most yards in my area get $200 for an engine so that's not a bad price IMO.

If the ram horns are in good shape i'd say you got a deal

250 for a runner isn't bad. Now does a 307 have a 283 bore and 350 crank? or 350 bore and 283 crank? If it has open chamber heads you'll be able to part the engine out afterwards and get some of your $ back.

283 bore and 327 stroke..

Good deal if it's a runner. Should be a great motor while you rebuild the 350.

Awesome! Looks like I'll go for it then. My Dad's buying it though because I'll only have it in the truck for maybe a month till I get the 350 done, then after I swap 'em out again he's going to keep it for a spare in case the one in his '85 suburban takes a dump. It probably will soon, it's got over 200,000 miles on it with only a valve job on the heads, never been fully rebuilt. The 307 looks awesome though, has the original carb, air cleaner, and the manifolds just have surface rust, no cracks or splits. Bad thing is the truck will probably get crushed once the engine gets pulled, he's been doing some serious cleaning up around the yard.

hey, sorry to piggyback on your thread, but reading it brings to mind a question... how much do a set of good ramhorns usually run?

At least $50 bucks, but I've seen 'em as high as $200 for a set that's been blasted and coated with high temp paint.
