truck broke down towd by a ford!!
i know this belongs in the engine/drivetrain but itll get me attention here, i was driving to school yesterday at about 2000rpm and the engine just cut out my tack started jumping and very small backfires out the exaust. so i pull over ans check for spark it seems to have medioker spark from the coil and plugs but not good enouf for the msd i dont think. its has fuel and the pump works what went wrong i cant figure it out. my boss things the mag picups in the dizzy whent bad but im not sure. i also thought maybe i broke my timeing chain but the valves all move too. last thing i went and tried to start it this morning and the thing cranked fired and made the LOUDEST! backfire out the pipes i ever heard in my life dam thing sounded like 5 shotguns im stumped.
specs on the ignition are msd probillit dizzy blaster 2 coil msd 6al box and msd 9mil wires i hope you guys have some ideas and also sme pics of it being towd by a ford thanks -kyle

sounds like a bad ignition box to me. did you get the ready to run probillet or just the plain pro billet? if you have the ready to run probillet you can just unhook the box and run off of the module inside the distributor.if not you need another box

I would be happy to have a F**D, Toyota or even a Kia tow me home rather than leave that truck by the side of the road...LOL! Maybe you live in a safe place but there are just too many parts that would disappear off that truck if it were left around most big cities.

when i still had my 6 my truck carb popped and i heard my air cleaner fall as she died. so i rolled to the side and found BOTH my carb screws that hold the air cleaner post on inside my carb. i asked my gfs dad to bring me some needle nose pliers so i could pull them out but he just brought the tow rope. he drove a f250. so i know what the shame is like. have you figured out a hood solution yet???

I hear ya about not wanting to leave it on the side of the road, but I'd still be hanging my head in shame. I wanted to cry one day when I saw this really nice Z71 being towed by an old beat down F150. |

I`m thinking your chain jumped time, also.Check that, then see if it starts. It may be noisey. If so,1st check for bent push-rods.If still all clackity, there`s a bent valve or two.Did you notice if the chain was slapping the cover lately? It makes a ticky sound.

based on the RPM being in the 6 spark phase of the box & your tach jumping around along with it spitting out the exhaust I wouls say either the box or the pick-up in dizzy. I am more inclined to say the box.
