Unplanned maiden voyage
Took half of yesterday off and got my front shock towers installed and the front shocks installed. Then I proceeded to finish my home built power brake bleeder and bled the brakes. What a simple, cheap tool, and it worked awesome! Flushed all of the old fluid out and it is definitely a one person job using the power bleeder!
Got a little brake fluid on a rim so I figured it would be easiest to fire the truck up and get out of the barn to wash the rim off. I don't have a steering column installed but was able to get out of the barn easy enough. After I got the rim washed off I just had to try to go for a drive. I got the old column and connected it to the steering box loosely and threw on a spare steering wheel and fired the truck up. I had to drive holding the column up but I was able to drive to the end of the drive and back, probably 1/4 of a mile. I was all smiles. Found a small leak in the high pressure line going from the steering box to the hydroboost so I got it pulled last night and it is having a new hose installed today. My oldest daughter asked this morning when I was going to be able to take them to school in the truck - maybe if things go well I can before school is over this year. A bit more to do but I'm getting so close!

hydroboost
Nice progress, looking good!!
Question for you though...what setup do you have for your hydroboost and how do you like it? Could you post or email me some pics? I've been thinking about this type of setup, but don't know anyone that has used them. Thanks,

Beefcake - It went to the body shop during February of 2004 to be back in 1 month . . . didn't get it back until October of 2004.
As for the power bleeder I found a couple websites that talked about making your own and since I do most of my truck stuff alone I had to make one. You take a garden type sprayer and cut the wand off of it, leaving the hose. I added a pressure gauge as you don't want more than 20 lbs of pressure. Then I got a small flat piece of metal a little larger than the brake booster lid and drilled and tapped it for a fitting that I could attach the sprayer hose to. Then I use two c-clamps to secure the flat piece of metal to the brake booster. The fitting is positioned so I can just turn the flat piece of metal 180 degrees so I can do the back brakes then the front brakes. I will get some pics of it tonight. Here are the links I used to make my setup - it is well worth the few bucks it takes to make one. http://www.arkansaspontiacs.org/tech...er%20story.htm http://www.bmw-m.net/TechProc/bleeder.htm

ac102nv - the big block and the hydroboost system came from a 1989 1 ton Chevy. I am also using the hydraulic clutch setup. So far it looks like it will be nice but I am not roadworthy yet so will have to wait for a final decision. I made a reinforcement for the firewall as the hydroboost is pretty heavy and a couple people mentioned reinforcement would be wise. I will dig up some old post links showing this setup.
Here is an old post http://207.44.196.117/vboard/showthread.php3?t=86446 but unfortunately my website is down right now so the pics aren't all showing up. PM me your e-mail address and I will send you some of the pics.

Unfortunately I didn't have time to take everything off the bed so I couldn't jump on the gas - I would have been picking up stuff for hours

That unfortunately was not a cold beer from that day of wrenching, but the remains from a few days ago.
It really is a handy workbench and like a workbench it is very messy! Thanks for all the compliments and it has come along way in the last 3 years - further than I would have ever guessed I would have it. After all it is just my work truck for around the house . . .
