? for those with BB, headers & SM465
Hey guys...
? for everybody running a big block with headers & an SM465. I've got a set of Hedman long headers on my 496 (bolted in almost perfectly). I left the 496 in the stock location (dimpled the firewall for clearance) and was cruising along bolting everything in...until I got to the clutch linkage. The main pipe runs directly in front of the hole for the pivot on the motor side. I don't think that I could bend the header far enough to even get a pivot to screw in...let alone to get enough clearance for motor rock etc. Anyway, I was curious to see what everybody else has done to solve similar problems. I'm probably going to go with a hydraulic clutch set up, but if somebody has a creative idea...I'd love to hear it. Thanks in advance! |

I am running a hydraulic clutch so I don't have a problem but I did notice that my tube was also directly in line with that hole. My headers are the Dynomax headers for a 2wd 67-87 or so truck. You might PM burt4x4. He is using Thorley headers I believe and could look to see if those cause interference. He is also using a hydraulic clutch.

You simply need 73-85 clutch linkage,z-bar and frame bracket..I have done this...Go under the footnotes in the Big block header # and it will tell you this same thing...And it works fine...

Thanks for the tip...I missed that one in the hedder notes . Does the pivot for the 73 & up line up with the rearward hole on the block? I've got a z-bar from a 454'd '76. I never enough thought of trying to line it up at that location. That leaves me a frame bracket to score and a couple of holes tor drill in the frame (I assume)...time for another trip to the local salvage yard..... |

Yes it will use the rear hole in the block now,all you need is a bracket..You will also need the 73-85 clutch rod from the pedal to z-bar. And you need to lower the hole where that rod comes out of the firewall..I forgot about that part.. A Big Block was never put in a 67-72 4x4!!!factory.

True about the 67-72's not comming factory with a BB...but boy do they look good with one sitting in the engine bay!!!!
Thanks again for the info. I now should have my '72 driveable by the end of Memorial weekend. Like a kind around x-mas...I can't wait. |

Glad to help,I was confused when i did this swap and got it right off of the comp,here. Then my other truck blew up,i pulled the motor from my 65 biscayne and put it in the burb,then old bis needed a motor,Why not a 70 LS6 454 4speed,Its one cool car now,The 69 K/20 is parts truck now,with 72 1/2 ton rears bare cab and bed..with 69 K/20 title....coming up for grabs soon.
