Front Shock Mounts - Big problems

Can someone tell me, or better yet, show me a picture of how the top of the front shock mounts to the frame rail? Is there a mounting stud or something that sticks out from the frame rail? My nephew (or one of his buddies) did something to butcher the front shock mounts on my truck. They look like they have been welded (very badly) back in, and the driver side has even broken loose so that the shock is able to move slightly in and out on the frame rail. It really scared me when I first saw it, and I know it's got to be dangerous. Is it possible to fix something like this? I wish I had a digital camera to show you guys a pic, but I don't. Comments?

A stud bolts into the frame and the shock slips over the stud. It sounds like yours were broken/cracked and someone tried to repair it and did a poor job.

Just replaced mine. The top of the front was bent in because someone had the wrong shocks in there, the new rancho's i got have a "spacer" on the top of the shock so it wouldn't fit in. Had to bend it back w/ a crescent wrench. My bottom mount on the drivers side was either rusted out or blew out & someone...(prob. the same MF that used the wrong shocks.) but it sounds like we have near the same problem...bottom of mine was halfass welded to the bottom mount...FUBAR, EDIT:also my front mounts & new shocks had no studs, those were only on the rear....the front just has this "spacer tube" sticking off the frame side of the shock.

my shock stud that came with the shocks came loose one day and rounded out the hole. lock washers, locktite and anti-size compound are required. worst casse weld in the shock bolt to the frame
