frame vin #

I am trying to figure out what year frame that I have. Any suggestions on were to look? Is there a web site that tells what the numbers mean. I also need to know what axles I have. I believe it has the 12 bolt rear and the 44 front. It is a project vehicle. Any help would be appreciated. The truck has a 72 cab. How can you tell the difference from 67 to 72 4x4 frames?

Most frames were stamped in the general area of the steering box

My '72 frame is stamped right below where the doors would be. I believe it is stamped on both sides of the frame.

My 72 is stamped on top of the frame rail, just behind the steering box. (between the steering box and the firewall) I've been told that they are also stamped under the cab, as 402bowtie said.

And the first number of the frame stamp represent the year of frame typically. Second letter or number represents assembly plant the rest is the sequence same as vin tag. Most frames, some dont..then you gotta know the little differences, like spring purchase types and brackets and such. Can be done though fairly accurately.

Thanks for your help. Where can I get the information to decode my frame numbers? You also replied to another thread that I posted about my vin numbers. You said that the 8 stood for a blazer, but I thought that a 6 stood for blazer. Any information that you can give me is very appreciated.

I just did a frame off restore on my frame the numbers were located in the
area of the steering box and on top of the frame about in the middle of the
drivers door. The numbers on the frame at the drivers door were not stamped
as deep as the other place. After etch primer and primer, paint, and two
coats of clear these numbers were a little hard to see. No problem with the
ones at the steering box location.
