Trouble at the carwash

I took my old beast to the car wash this afternoon. They politely suggested I don't return.

My truck has 3" spindles and a flip kit and apparently sits too low for their conveyer. I got hung up 2-3 times before I even got to the first wash station. I have been there before, had some trouble, but I was always able to get it washed.
Anyone else have this problem?

In the past 30 years about 90% of Fords are still on the road, the other 10% made it home.

No, but my CB antenna usually hits something on the roof. I am anal about washing my truck and only use a commercial wash during the colder months to keep the salt off.

Yes I did. I use to scrape along the local car wash but made it out ok. I have an 80 Blazer 2WD (TOTM Oct 2004) with 5" drop fr/back. Usually wash it at home but if going to a cruise and out of time I take it to a car wash I found near work that is nozzles only, no brushes and it has a flat floor. Try find one of these and you are home free. I don't like the brushes on my truck anyway.

car wash chemicals

have ya'll not ever wondered how the car wash can clean your truck without scrubbing? well its chemicals, takes all the wax off and eats at the clear coat. I hand wash my baby with turtle wax car wash for 25 years now and it beads all the time. don't even need wipers in the rain.

I like the chemicals. The clearcoat makes it shine until the next carwash.

My project this summer is either a body swap or a truck replacement. It seems like using the truck for a daily driver and work truck on the weekend takes its toll.

Anyone have a rolling short bed body?

I only go to the no brush carwash on cruise nights if I don't have time to get home and wash it. Usually I hand wash it myself the day before and put it in the garage for the night. I hate to go but sometimes it is better than showing up with a dirty or dusty truck. I have a California brush for light dust.

The right thing to do, if you value the paint job that you have is to wash the vehicle by hand. I use a pH balanced car wash soap and then I back that up with a hand drying (using towels and a water blade NOT a chamois). The chamois have a tendency to hold dirt and scratch the paint. I have a lot invested in my paint jobs and I want them to last. I have a 1991 daily work truck that I drive all of the time and it has a shine to it that beats the heck out of some of the new cars. A little care and attention goes a long way, with the proper chemicals.

I always take my 4x4 beaters when there completely covered in mud to the car wash. Paint job is not very good right now so it does not really matter to me, I mean it does but it does not. I only have to worry about not hitting the sides of the entry doors when I got in and not hitting my rollbar on the ceiling.
