Cluster board electrical help?
Hello
I'm trying to change over from a idiot cluster to a gauge cluster. I followed all the copper wire on the back of thecluster board, and some look to be different. 1 2 3 4 5 6 If this is the plug in 7 8 9 10 11 12 then I have it as the gauge cluster board would be 1=7 from the idiot board 2=6 from the idiot board 3=4 " " 4=5 6=???? Battery gauge has no wire from old board 7=???? Temp gauge has no wire from old board(idiot) 8=8 9=9 10=1 11=11 12=??? Other Batt. has no wire I can think of Any ideas to this mess?

Good thing you looked and asked before just plugging it in.
I still remember my buddy almost p!ssin himself in laughter while the gas guage needle spun a couple laps around the guage and snding in a puff of smoke. I sure coulda used an awsome place like this with good info back then. |

67chevemall, when you get it working, can you let us know how you did it?. I looked at GMCpauls site and didn't understand it . I'm an electrical moron!. It looks like all you have do is switch a few wires but I couldn't make sense of it.

Pretty sure you have to change the harness under the hood also.

No harnesses involved.
Under the hood you need to run a 20g wire from the small cable on your Batt. to the #12 pin.(use the old extra oil sensor plug for the cluster pin) Then you need a 20g wire from the Alt Reg 12gRed to the # 1 pin on the cluster plug in. PUT A 3A FUSE AT THE BATT> AND ALT END OF THE PROJECT Now a new Temp sensor that works with gauges. Throw your idiot one at your neigbours porshe.Taking out the Alt makes life easy here. Last you need a oil fitting and oil tube/hose from the fitting to the cluster gauge. Take out your idiot sensor and chuck it too. Get 2 beers and get into the ride (your dash should already be apart, and rewire everything here makes it clean) Take the clip that plugs into the cluster, get all the tape and crap off and make it workable. Follow the #'s around changing which wires go where from GMCPAULS chart. 2 small flatheads are needed to work the small copper plugs on the clip. You have to push a real small one down the front of the cluser plug till it goes click then push the thing out and put it in its new home. Start at #1(which is labelled on the pin its self, not the #'s I started with up top, they are wrong) and work your way around. #1 #12 you have to run wires for #2-10 are easy stay the same or small shifts. The OLD Generator and Oil temp ones cut and seal for later use. Use their clips for the NEW #1 and #12 Batt gauge. Take your time with the oil line as Oil in the cab sucks. Connect the Vacumn line and the speed O and your done. Unless you cut the hell out of your cluster and put a tach in the middle then u have that to hook up too! Yeee Haaaa Hope that helps ,,I need a beer.

The following is for a gauge dash this gives the numbered position of the wires in gauge dash and followed by what it supplies, then number from idiot light dash you move wire from.
1-Black with white stripe (alternator) This runs from the 12 R from voltage regulator and should have a inline fuse. 2-Tan (Brake warning light) Original position 2 3-Pink (Fuel Gauge) Original Position 7 4-Tan(Fuel Gauge) Original Position 4 5-Empty(not Used) 6-Dark Green (Temp. Gauge) Original position 5 7-Black(ground)Original Position 6 8-Gray(cluster light feed) Original Position 12 9-Medium Blue (Right turn) Original Position 11 10-Lt. Blue (left turn) Original Position 10 11-Lt. Green (high Beam indicator) Original Position 9 12-Black/w brown stripe use wire ran from the junction block near battery mounted to passenger side fender with a inline fuse located at junction block end. Remove the wires from your loom plug and place the colors in the # on plug that corresponds with the color from list above. You will need to replace your idiot light temp. gauge for a temp. sending unit with gauges. The black and white wire feeds from the 12gRed wire off back of alternator and requires the use of 2-4amp inline fuses, this wire you need to make and run. The DARK BLUE wire that was originally in #1 position should be deleted because this was the idiot light for the oil pressure. If you need more info. ask
