okay, i have a top from a '74 i'm going to try to install on my '82. can i do this without a windshield frame from a '73-'75? or can i just cut and plate my roof panel? i don't have anything to go on so, can anyone get me some pics of one that has been cut down? or some measurements of how much to leave? all i have is the top to look at. it looks like the top would overlap the frame? any info would be helpful. thanks.

I am fixin to do the same thing to my 80 2wd, but I am going to change the whole tub with a 74 2wd Jimmy I found.

So at some point in the near future I will have a near perfect 1/2 top tub and a 2wd frame up for sale.

You might want to double check and make sure that the 74 body will work. The floor pan was redesigned in 78, and I think the way the body mounts is different.

I knew that the floor was recessed to allow for the fold up rear seat, but I did not know the body mounts were different. Thanks for the info.

thanks for all the links, and pics. the problem i have is i don't have the windshield frame to weld on to my cab. i will have to modify my cab to accept the '74 top. has anyone done this?

There has been a few windshield frames up for sale within the last 6-8 months on here. Not sure if they sold or the user names that had them. Too bad there is no search feature. I have heard there was a way to use Google to search a particular site. Might be worth looking in to.

I read in here somewhere that you should not cut the windshield pillar straight across as it makes a weak point later.
You should cut 1/2 way through about 1/3 up the post from the cowl and cut 1/2 way through about 1/3 down from the top. One cut comes from the inside out and the other cut comes from the outside in.
Then make a straight line cut between the two to make the break. It should look like a long "Z", but straight down, not slanted like a Z.
It is a lot more welding but it said in the article that it made for a stronger weld as the two points are only 1/2 cut.

I want to do this to my`90.It will be soft-top only,so I`m just cutting/keeping the original frame.If I was wanting to use the hard-top,I`d use a w/s frame from a full hard-top.
