Performance Shifter Ideas...
Looking for some ideas on making my column shifter more "performance friendly." Has anyone heard of a mod to make our column shifters work like a ratchet shifter? With all the column shift cars and trucks that GM made, surely somebody has done this before.
Please don't tell me to put a floor shifter in. I like my "Buddy Buckets" and want to keep the interior of my truck looking as "harmless" as possible.

I feel the same way about shifters in trucks . . .... I like 'em on the column only. I've heard of people modding the linkage for a rachet effect but have never seen it done personally. I've always been curious about how it was accomplished.

I'm sure if a few of us put our heads together, we can come up with something. It would be killer to have that though.

Why Not Just Manually Shift From First To Second To Third On The Column... I Do It Just About Everyday. And No Problems Yet. I Guess I Don't Understand What You Are Looking For. (some Way To Manually Shift Your Automatic?)

ratcheting is quicker because you can just hit the shifter and it goes to the next gear, not like grabbing the shifter and pushing it in the next gear.

you mean you guys don't like to get out and realine the shifter so you can shift the thing about cause the tubes are old and worn? Oh the joys of owning an older truck

I just thought about something..... one of the column manufacturers has recently come out w/a cable style actuator that fits the end of the column vs. the solid 'rod'.
I wonder if this could be modified? Check Ididit or Flaming River & see if you can find what I'm talking about.

I believe this is what you are talking about SCOTI...
http://www.flamingriver.com/index.cf...rod/prd112.htm There still needs to be some sort of ratcheting mechanism either on the Trans end or the column end for it to work. Anybody have a Megashifter or another ratcheting floor shifter laying around so we could get some good pictures of the innards?

I know from the factory my Z28, console shifter ratchets. I have no idea if the mechanicsm could somehow be adapted to a column shifter, just throwing it out

Re: Performance Shifter Ideas...
I've wanted a ratchet action for a stock column shifter for years too. PLEASE, someone post some pictures of a ratcheting shifter. I would think with some of the amazingly talented guys and gals in here, we could put something together.

Here we have a demand for something and none of the major players are chiming in? We would appreciate some ideas or feedback. Thanks.
