Alternator mounting bracket

With the original accessory drive setup, does the alternator mount to the driver side exhaust manifold or is there a lower bracket? LUV wants to convert to original short water pump setup so he can relocate the alternator to the driver side. I'm sending him some of the pulleys and an upper alternator bracket, but I can't remember how the alternator fastens at the bottom. Thanks.

67-68 alternators bolt to the exhaust manifold. The 69-72 alternator brackets bolt to the heads like this pic.

Thanks for the responses. The engine that was in my truck when I bought it was a '68 model 327, so the heads, 040 castings, had no accessory holes. I thought I remembered that the alt. bolted to the exhaust manifold and y'all confirmed that. Thanks again.

I have a 67 lwb 2wd drive truck with a 71 engine. How come when I put my alt. setup like the above pic, I can't get the p/s cap off the pump? It hits the bottom alt bracket .

67sss,

I would check out the pump. The truck pump has the filler neck angled forward a few degrees which gives you the clearance to clear the bracket with the dipstick.

I can post a pic if you need it.

tomatocity,

You might be right!
