Is $12,000 Reasonable for an Unrestored 1972 4x4 SWB Fleetside?

I saw this truck on eBay. It's close to where I live. I'd be tempted to bid on it if it were in the $5000-$6000 range, but $12,000 seems way too high for something that is in original condition. It is kind of hard to tell exactly how good the condition is from the listing thought. It doesn't have A/C or any rare options that I can see. How much do you think it is worth?

thats a 3000 dollar truck imo. There's no way that truck will ever sell.

I agree on the $5000-6000 range. Original SWB 4wd's are hard to find. But for $12k you should get a near show quality truck. Don't believe the $3000 range for this kind of truck.....I looked for months before buying my 67 SWB 4wd for $5000, and it needed some work. All I found for $3000 needed to be fully restored....lots of rust. Keep looking & be patient. Greg

A truck like that around here would go for $5-$6K easily. An original unmolested, non rusted or beat up SWB 4x4 are rare pretty much anywhere. Id be interested if he wasn't asking so much.

That truck is nice and I`d pay $4,500 to as much as $6,500.I`d go up to $7,500 if it was loaded. It doesn`t take much to put another $2,000 into mechanics just to get them to be good drivers. The rust-free western trucks I have I`ve paid $5,500-$7,000 for and they had nice options.

Nice truck but not 12K nice...

I also searched high and low for a decent swb 4x4 and the one I found has 54K original miles and alot more options than that one listed on ebay, including working A/C.
Everything is totally stock/original and still intact unlike the one up for sale here.

They wanted 12K for mine as well in the beginning, no that's not what I paid either.

In my opinion it makes more sense to set the initial bid low, and have a reserve. That way you get to see how much people are willing to pay. With the initial bid amount set so high, he will never find out.

I sent him an email and asked him if he was serious about selling the truck. He said that he is serious about selling it, and it is worth $12,000. It's only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it.

I'd give 5-7K for the 72 4x4 (need to see it up close)

That's an awesome truck Bowtieman

The green 2wd is worth the "buy it now" price, especially for the shape it's in for a Michigan truck. They got a little lazy on the paint taping though, check out the green hoses/wires/heater box/brake booster/cylinder/lines....

All of the above are my opinions and can not be reused or reproduced without the expressed written consent of me.

I think he was using the local truck trader to gauge his price. 4x4's can get pretty pricey in this neck of the woods. Not worth 12k though.

Another "selling it for a freind" ad. Yeah, Ok, whatever. Anyway, if interior is in excellent condition except for some cracks in the steering wheel, why is there a cover over the seat? I'd be showing the seat if it truly were in excellent condition. Hmmm, I wonder if he's hiding anything else!

I agree, 4500 from a dealer for my 2wdswb that is in good shape like that. I could not see more then 6k for it with the 4wd. For 12k I would expect a custom Pink look with cowboys painted on the finder wells..... I still hate I didnt win that one.

Found this on the sale board. Its a project but with a member you are more likely to get what you pay for.

Well maybe the guy is in the same boat as a friend of mine. Wife says "Sell the Bike" So he lists it for 8k more than its worth. Hey honey it just wont sell..... sorry...

but I don't think this is the case. He may just be greedy. for 12k you can get a truck in near show cond. around here.

I love how they put "This truck is being sold with no reserve, highest bidder takes it home. " But they start the bidding out at $12,000.00. Gimme a break.

It should have been worded "Anybody crazy enough to bid on it takes it home."
