It is all a personal style. I dig them either way. I've seen some trucks sitting on 20+ wheels that look great, some that look terrible. Same with stock wheels. A lot depends on the style of wheel. There is a '72 long bed in my neighborhood that I would love to get a hold of, drop it and put it on 20's. I've seen a few with 18's up front and 20's in the rear that look nice too.

I'm riding on 18's and 20's with this truck. The PO put these on and they look great. My other truck is going to wear similar shoes.
I've never like 20's all the way around though. Too big for the front. But as with everyone else, it's just an opinion.

Another question: To do a drop on my 72 chevy 1/2 ton , 2" front 4" on the rear, what is a fair going price nowadays on the job???? It seems shops where I'm at most shops are asking around 800 and up, is that about average? I was hoping to find something a lot cheaper than that, my wife is already pissed off enough Ya' know what I mean.

If you know what you are doing a 2/4 drop shouldn't cost more than $120 and that's just for the 4 inch rear drop springs.

How low should you go?

For a nice look,but not to low that i cant get in my driveway w/o scraping the bottom how low should I go? 2/4, or lower? (w/ 20"s)

Tire Size...

I have BF Goodrich Radial T/A's on a 8" truck ralley wheel.
Wheel has a 3-1/2" back space
Tire is 275-60-15
The truck has been dropped 5" all around. The tires fill the well just fine.

I personally just don't like anything bigger than 18's. Here is a pic of mine with 17's (17x7,17x9.5-255/60/17, 275/60/17) with a 1" drop front and 2" drop rear.

The next pic is with my 15x8 Hopsters with 275/60/15's all the way around. I think the 15's are classic and timeless. They will never go out of style.

I think big inch wheels will fade away from classic cars eventually, but will remain with newer vehicles.

Longbeds look a little different lowered than shortbeds (that's my opinion). Check out www.earlyclassic.com and look at the stance photos. They have a 68 longbed with 17's and how it looks with different stances.

The main thing is, build it the way you want it and you'll be alot happier with it in the long run.

4/6 drop..

Is it ok to just change out the coils or do you have to use drop spindles?? A buddy of mine says he'll either cut my origianla springs or replace my originals...But is this cheap way going to mess anything up or should i spend the extra cash at a shop and have more work done?? Any comments or sugeestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can't drop more than 3" with springs. You would be better off with 2.5 spindle and a 1" coil. 3" spring are not reccomended very often on the board.

I would spend the money and go with spindles and new springs. I've heard that 3" coils aren't good at all and that cutting or heating your springs will affect how well the truck rides.
