40-60 Series Cabs vs. 10-30 series...
I know that there are differences in the floor pans by the kickpanels and also the bottoms of the doors but is there any difference between the two from the middle of the rocker and floorpan, up the back of the cab across the roof and down to the top of the dash?
Thanks... Joe

I am almost certain the answer to that question is,"nope".It`s my understanding the only differences are what you mentioned.

The cabs are the same, except for the doors, and I think the firewall is different. I think the cab mounting positions are different too.

The rear window, is that stamped into the cab as a big back window but is running a glass the size of a 67 small window? Would I be able to cut it out to the correct size? The reason I am asking is I am looking for a cheap, solid cab for a project I am planning but I don't need the firewall, front of the floor or windshield posts. There are a few really solid C50's & 60's laying around here but the pickup trucks are mostly all in poor condition.

The big trucks are awesome, especially the ones with 2 speed rear ends. Here's a couple I have on my computer:

Back when I was 16, trying to rebuild my first '68 Chev, a guy I know at a local junkyard had a '72 C-20 4x4. He couldn't find a decent cab for it, so he ended up using a C-60 (or maybe GMC) cab off of a dumper that somebody gave to the yard. I don't know what all the differences were, but it worked. Or, at least, he made it work. It looked fine on the truck, save for the small rear window, which to me looked a little out of place with the '72 front clip.
Hope that helps on some level. |

A lotta the GMC's used V6's. Yes. V6's. BIG V6's. Like well into the 400 ci range. When I go back home this August I may have to steal an old book from my dad with information on these old engines. GMC had a thing for the V6 for some reason. The biggest they built was a V-12, which was two of those 6 cylinders stuck back to back. It's max RPM was like 3200. 8) Gas mileage on that was probably 2 gallons per mile.
Oooh! Webpage! Check these stats out! http://www.6066gmcguy.org/EngineData.htm 478 CI V6. 637 V8. 702 V12. I've seen a couple of these. Unfortunately, they won't fit in the smaller trucks. |

The white C40 I posted above has a 283 V8 in it. Same size of motor I'm putting in my 67 C10.

Yep, Tall Deck 366 & 427's. I haven't personally seen any small blocks but they also had the V & I 6's and also a diesel(only saw one).

Back in the late '70's I helped a neighbor who owned a concrete company light a fire
in his '67 C-50 dump truck. Stock it had a 283,(with a governor no less), and didn't have the power to get out of it's own way. Picked up a 427 from a wrecked Corvette complete with an aluminum hi-rise and worked-on open chamber heads and bolted it right up to the stock 4-spd. and 16" clutch! Amazingly a set of Hooker fender-well headers fit like they were made for it and thus my neighbor had one of the baddest dump trucks to ever haul a load of gravel. Neat thing is, after removing the grill, grill- support and radiator, the engine was right there making it one of the easiest motor- swaps I have ever done,(didn't even have to remove the hood). rwgregory
