the most ghetto defrost fix I've EVER seen...pic too
I bought this 68 CST for parts back in January from a wholesale auctioneer that I thought had a dead 307 but after I put in a new coil it roared to life w/ a jumpstart! It has a lot of compression from the way it shuts down and a hell of a jump at acceleration. I had never drove it...I pushed it off the trailer! Sprayed some B-12 Chemtool on the choke and linkage and it warms up really quick. The under-the-passenger-side head/block stamp starts with CE. That equals Crate Engine-or a warranty replacement I think. It is not the 327 that came with it.
I drove it last Saturday and it is tight from the throwout bearing to the rear-end. Good bed and full CST trim. BUT! Look at the dash! WHO thinks DUCT tape is the answer here!!! Anyway, thought we might start a chuckle about "dumbass PO moves..."

Based on the amount of tape used, I don't think the hose is going to fall off.
I bought a truck once that had a Mountain Dew can with the top and bottom cut off that was used for part of the defroster ducting. At least it was hidden partially under the dash. |

LOL! He probably spent more in tape then he would have in parts to fix it properly.

I don't know ANYTHING about its history. The rocker panels were just recently replaced (fresh welds) but the passenger cab corner and the kick panels need work. I think it might have been a project that someone abandoned, but I don't know why...it's not a basket case (well, not now that it runs!). Someone had put an HEI in it (the fused wire was still in place) but somewhere along the line someone put a points dizzy back in it. The coil had a ballast resistor with a broken wire and not enough life to keep it running. Someone had removed the ignition switch too--I fixed that as well. Notice the BB C-20 hooked up to my girlfriends horse trailer in the background...I bought the C-10 before I found the BB...Now I don't know whether to sell the C-10 or fix it up too.

Looks like a good truck, I would keep both trucks and fix them both as time and $$ allow.

ROTFLMAO!!! We had a '69 C-10 short stepside with a 250/3spd that was our farm truck that got EXACTLY the same treatment..............Believe it or not, the defroster worked alot better like that! We drove the truck 365 days a year twice a day atleast, and in the fall, spring, and summer triple or quadruple that number. It had to work! Granted the cab was completely shot, so it didn't matter much, but it sure was safer as atleast you could see.
IMO, I don't think the defrost systems on these trucks are nothing to brag about as installed by OEM.

I don't think that tape was for the defrost it was to hold the dash together.

I've seen worse examples of "Duct tape fixes anything". I had an uncle once who had a duct tape fender on his old furd truck.

Hell, around here that is a mint truck needing minor finish work. Wish I could find a few like that! The duct tape is simply a demonstration of american ingenuity and brings back a reminder of the kind of special tools we should all carry! First car was a 58 Impala that lost it's wiper motor ---I use some cord and ran it out the door, tied to a wiper and around the windshield back inside in a big loop. I would drive in the rain with one hand pulling the cord back and forth. Snow made it a more beneficial exercise so I would have to change arms to avoid overexercise on either! Then I sobered up and fixed the wiper motor.
