Stepside to Fleet

I am looking at 70 chevy stepside. I am not really fond of the stepside part of the truck. What I want to know is it possible to convert a stepside to a fleet side. If so can you just order the body panels and change them out?

Thanks

You can't use much for parts off the old maybe, maybe the strips between the wood, but that's probably it. It would be cheapest to buy a nice used bed and put that on. You may even be able to trade the step bed for a fleet bed.

Is this a long or short bed? I have a long step, if yours is a longbed in good condition I may be intgeresed in some parts if you need some money to buy the new bed. Where in Texas?

Yep, they made the longstep. Jims70GMC converted his long fleetside to a long stepside, it's a 4x4 so it looks even better!

The step side trucks came in 3 flavors...small, med, and large.
1/2 ton only.... 6 1/2 foot bed, 115 inch wheel base.
1/2 ton or 3/4 ton 8 foot bed... 127 inch wheel base.
one ton only...9 foot bed, 133 inch wheel base.

Alf1096, You can surely sale or trade the step bed. I did just the opposite. I sold my fleetside bed and bought all reproduction parts to build my stepside. It just depends on what you want. I have probably around $2000 in the reproduction stepside and that was without tax and shipping. You can find beds on here and evil bay for less than $500..again, they are not perfect, but you can get something to work with. That's my .02

Here is a pic of my 68 c10 long step. NOt a great pic, but you can see where there is extra length in front and behind the fenders.

Stepside

I have a good starter or project 71 short step listed in the trucks for sale section. Just thought you might want to check it out.
