Question Cranks Over But Won't Start - New Wiring

Okay, I finally installed the new wiring harness I have had for almost 6 months. Now the thing won't start back up. I figure it has to something with the wiring for the distributor...what do you think?

I hooked the big red wire to BATT and the Pink and Yellow to TACH (even though I do not have a tach). I hooked the purple and yellow to the starter.

At the junction block, I connected the two black and red wires and ran a wire from the positive terminal.

Any ideas?

Question

Okay, I was wrong. The Pink and Yellow wires go to the BATT connection on the distributor, and the Red wire goes to the TACH connector.

If the yellow wire goes to the BATT connector, would having the Yellow wire on the starter on the wrong side of the solenoid cause just cranking and not firing?

Are you using an HEI?? You need a full 12v switched to the BATT terminal on the HEI..The yellow wire is not needed. The purple wire goes on the smallest wire lug that is on the solenoid closest to the engine block. Hopefully this will help a little.

Yes. HEI Distributor. The harness has been modified for HEI. The butchered up harness I took off only had one wire going to the inside post on the solenoid and had just one wire for the BATT connection.

So, do I need to go back and disconnect the yellow wire from the starter?

You should have a RED BATT wire (switched, ignition - NOT on all the time, only when the key is in the ON and CRANK position).....going to the cap on the HEI distributor.

You don't need it with an HEI......Yes, you can disconnect it. If you have no tach, there is no need to hook any wire up to the tach terminal on your HEI.

She Fired!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks guys. I guess the harness is for both HEI and non-HEI set-ups. I disconnected the yellow and pink connector from BATT and hooked up just the Red wire to BATT. She fired right up. Lights work! And I did not have to pop the safety pin on my fire extinguisher. TOO COOL! Thanks again. I don't know what I'd do without this board!
