No I dont beleive so but it should be. I get a few emails a month with questions about it and where did the thread go. For anyone considering this mod,it is not a simple bolt in. You have to be willing to fabricate and make things work no matter how PO you get. In all honesty one of the reasons I sold my project was that I wasnt so sure of the parts that I had bought. The guy who built some of my stuff went under and I didnt feel to good about alot of things that I would have had to do to get it going.

Can I ask what year and model rack And pinion are you using ? You got it mounted yet. Like to see some pics. So maybe I can tell how much trouble it was. Thanks !!!

It is from a T-bird. 80's something. They are all the same for a ton of years. If you look at some of the pics in this topic you can see how I mounted it.

Simply ......wow

I was killing some time and decided to read this thread even though i don't plan to slam my truck. I am really amazed with the engineering and fabrication aspect of a drop cross member as well as the countless other mods described. Very cool. In fact I am so impressed that if i come across an extra cross member I’m going to seriously consider modifying it.

Of the various tube control arms on the market, none are going to get you any drop. They're only going to give you some correction to your camber and caster. There are some folks mod'ing control arms to give you drop, but those are generally one-offs or made-to-order items.

If you section (notch) the entire crossmember, you can use the stock frame mounts. If you section (notch) only for the frame rails, you will need to section your frame towers as you go since everyones truck will be slightly different.

if you section/notch the crossmember for your frame say 1.5-2" is there any steering problems and do you have to notch the frame for the tie rods to clear?

Re: Crossmember Drop

if you do 1.5 x member the frame is fine but you have to notch the upper control arm.

Re: Crossmember Drop

I am working on a 2" section on mine. I plan on raising the steering box and notching the frame appropriatly for steering clearance. I hope to have the crossmember it self in by the weekend (fingers crossed) It will be awhile before I get the steering column in though because I am using a 98 newer column in my 64 to mate up with my 98 cobra dash

Re: Crossmember Drop

Hey Matt,

I completely agree with you, the only problem is that I didnt think about Z'ing the frame and now it is too late. I decided to "notch" my crossmember instead of sectioning it. The reason I choose to do this is because I wanted to raise the engine while still dropping the truck. So if I did go and "Z" the frame now my engine would be sitting a total of 4" higher then stock which is basically require me re-doing the entire trans tunnel. I only have the member notched at 1.5" at the moment so I can stop there but that is still 3.5" and Z'ing the frame anyless then 2" would be near pointless for the work involed

Re: Crossmember Drop

Iam going my truck and is the first time that i done this, so when it comes to know if i what to do a crossmember drop or z the frame i dont know much. i do know that i would like my truck to lay flat,I think that my best bet is going to be doing the crossmember drop, since i dont know how much work is to z"ing the frame and how much mods iam going to have to do to the steering with crossmember or z"ing the frame.this seen to be the big topic when it comes to dropping a truck. So is doing the crossmenber only is going to be a good idea?
