I'm considering 285/60-17s as replacement tires for the 235/85-16 "farm" tires that are currently on there. The question is, what width wheel would you recommend going with?

I'm thinking 9".

I would say 10 inch... I had 275/60's on a 9 1/2 inch rim, and it was perfect. The 275 was a hair over 10 inches wide.

I've got that size (285/60/17's) on 9.5" rims. They seem just about perfect. It certainly wouldn't hurt to go another 1/2" up to a 10" wide rim.

I'd say 9.5" rims. That's what they put on COPPERHEAD and it's running 285/60/17's.

I agree but do have 275's on my 17 and 8" with no problem street rod not a work truck though. Ed

Thanks guys - I feel a bit better now. I've lined up some 17x9 wheels and I was actually worried thay could be too WIDE! Guess not!

It's just that when I saw them, they looked AWFUL wide. I've also got some275/60-15 drag radials on 15x8s on my Chally and they fit fine. Knowing this didn't help me much I guess.

9" wide should work okay then I guess. Now that I check, the tire co. says 8-10" as well.

I'd prefer the wheel was not quite wide enough rather than being too wide if I had to pick. Especially on a truck - the look I'm going for is different than what I might do with a car. A little "bulge" of the tire should look ok.

Which brings up another question:
YOu think 285/60-17s will look good on a C20? I've got plenty of ride height and don't plan on lowering it, other than bringing the back down to level.

the 9" wheels should be fine. I've seen 275/60/15's on 15x10" wheels and the tires didn't look wide enough for them... I love the way the 285/60/17's look on my '68 1/2 ton.

Great pics! Can't wait to get my tires mounted up. I feel ashamed to go with Korean tires, but the price/look/size/etc. pointed me to them. They're Kumhos, BTW.

I hope mine looks as good as yours when I'm done. I'm a little worried due to the extra ride height since mine is a C20 however. Well, we'll just have to see.
