Too much play in steering wheel ?

I have been driving this truck for about a year and I think that I have been getting more and more play in my steering wheel. I have 3/4 ton 4x4 with power steering. The steering wheel can be turned at least 1/4 turn without any reaction, and i think its getting worse. Any ideas?

this is a really dumb idea, buy maybe youve been losing some fluid this whole time? i dont know if it would cause it, but it could be

My guess is the coupler that is used to connect the steering column shaft to the steering gearbox.
It happend to me on a Camaro.

Lay under the truck, and have an assistand turn the wheel back and forth in the slop zone. (engine off) and see if y you can locate the slop. Should be easy to find, either a joint will be flexing, or there will be a lot of input to the gear box, and hardly any movement coming out of it.

Power steering fluid would not cause this condition.

What Andy said - and if it's in the box, it should be replaced - though you might be able to buy some time by tightening the adjuster on the box.
